The Rational Bible: Genesis

Discovering PragerU and Dennis Prager has been a blessing. Reading 'The Rational Bible' series has given our family so much to share and discuss. Our 10 year old enjoys reading her 'Action Bible' and often has questions that I didn't feel equipped to answer. 'The Rational Bible' answers these questions and gives us all a much better understanding. The essays and insights go much deeper than I've ever explored. What a wonderful gift. Thank you.

What an excellent book/series! As a devout Catholic I know that we have a poor reputation for memorizing, our even being familiar with, scripture. My favorite thing about the Bible, though, is the "notes". As I read, I can't help but think, "what did that mean?" or "how does this fit with that?" or "WHY do we care about how many pineapple shaped ornaments there were!?!?" For the New Testament there are a plethora or resources for such questions, but Old Testament resources are fewer. I only wish Dennis had time to rationalize the ENTIRE Old Testament instead of just the Torah! God bless him for his work, for his research, and for his furthering the Kingdom! To date I only own a paper copy of Genesis and audio copies of Genesis, Exodus, and Deuteronomy, but I'm looking forward to owning all paper copies to eventually hand down to my children.

I have never read the Bible line by line because it was difficult to follow. However the translations and essays included with this line-by-line reading have opened my mind and heart to the wisdom conveyed AND to how it relates in my life and the modern world today. Dennis Prager has brought me back to the Bible in a way no one else could. I highly recommend The Rational Bible!

This is a scholarly analysis of Genesis. I learned a lot. Anyone looking to read and study Genesis should consider this book.

It is a wonderful read. Excellent explanations and one everyone should read for better understanding.

Makes it easier to understand the different books no matter what your biblical knowledge is

Opened up Genesis in a new light. Essays are easy to understand and offers new insights to the first book of the Bible. Will order other commentaries from this author

This is outstanding. I'm reading it like I would read a book rather than a study guide or a reference book. Prager's work here is awesome. Will get his Exodus Bible as well.

This volume provides a rational and logical explanation of what the "Old Testament" meant in it's original historical context. Understanding it's historical context allows us to understand the significant lessons it contains that aren't immediately obvious. This has provided me with insights into today's world.Coming from a "Western" background, the "Old Testament" is a weird, confusing and pointless book that just appears to contradict reality. Christian types usually only take an interest in the Old Testament to justify their belief that Jesus is "the fulfilment" of promises made by God to the Israelites.As such, I had never been exposed to an analysis of the "Torah" like this. I am glad I have been. I know "get" what the Jewish people see in these texts that I simply hadn't been aware of before.This book is required reading for religious and non religious readers alike.

This is one of the greatest books I ever read. It answered a lot of questions that I had myself, and also gave me strong arguments.I consider this a reference book, together with ''The Exodus'' and I'm looking forward to have the next one.

I enjoyed this very much, being a Christian is great to read the Jewish perspective. Really appreciated the approach of providing alternative trains of thought when commenting on various verses. Have read it twice. Great read.

Nach mehrmaligen Versuchen, durch die Torah zu lesen, bin ich an meine Gedulds- und Verständnisgrenzen gekommen (geht wahrscheinlich Hand in Hand). Dennis Prager schafft es, unterhaltsam zu sein und gleichzeitig sehr viel beizubringen. Ich habe nun ein deutlich verbessertes Verständnis von dem 1. Buch Mose und möchte nun unbedingt weiterlesen.
