Got the job done
Converting from an old Windows 7 system to a new Windows 10 computer. In the final analysis it took a little over 1 hour to complete the transfer using the supplied cable. Getting every thing ready was 6-7 hours. I installed the software on each machine without the cable connected. The new computer was connected to the Hughes Net Wi-Fi the old system was not connected. The software installed on each system and I was ready to go. When I started the SW on the new machine it indicated that a newer version was available and forced me to download it before I could proceed I received the LL product about a week before. So I selected the option to download to latest version and it reported that it was going to take abut 65 minutes to download. So I set a timer and went back to reading my Lee Child book. The timer went off and I checked the process and the download had failed at 73%. I shutdown everything else that was sharing the Wi-FI and started again same result. I went to the LL website and chatted on line with a TS guy. He gave me a link to the needed file and I downloaded it to a USB stick on my desktop with a wired ethernet connection. Went back to the new computer plugged in the USB stick and tried to load the new software. Whoops need to remove the old version manually from the windows control panel. Also needed to remove the LL software from the old computer then install from the USB stick. The old system was slow to remove and install but eventually is got done. So lots of time and work getting both computers ready and connected. The actual transfer was a little over an hour. This is my wife's new computer and she isn't big on changes or having to learn new stuff. The transfer duplicated her desktop settings and all of the apps like mail, google shortcuts, the printer, camera software all made the trip and work fine. She's happy and I am thrilled. Note at least one of the computers needs to have an internet connection to validate the LL serial number. Best advice check their website to make sure you have the latest version before you start.

Unethical company, poor product
This company should be shunned for its disreputable business practices and the poor performance of its product. Laplink sells its PCmover software in multiple versions, including 1 use and CD versions. The CD version costs more and does not say single use in either the Amazon product description, on the box, or on the disk. It is reasonable to assume that paying more for a disk version entitles the owner to multiple uses. After all, a downloaded movie can be watched just once or for a limited amount of time, but when a customer pays the extra cost to buy a movie DVD there is no limit to the number of viewings. The unethical Laplink organization, however, charges extra for the program disk but then pulls an unexpected bait and switch by invalidating the serial number after 1 use. Worse, the PCmover program does not work well, failing to work properly with the bundled ethernet cable and failing to properly move over all of the necessary files and registry codes to make some programs work properly. Do not reward corporate malfeasance and incompetence; save your money!

Save your money!
This product doesn't work well at all. I couldn't get it to work and a techie friend of mine couldn't get it to work. I ended having to buy a external hard drive storage device to download my library of music. After $150 of wasted money and hours of time I will never get back, the external hard drive saved me.

Works easily and well.
Bought this to support transition from an old computer (Win7) to a new computer (Win10). Instructions seemed fine for my proficiency (fair to middling) and installation on old and new machines was done with no issues. Software seemed a bit anal about which was the old machine and which was new, but this is understandable. You will need to be able to set up both machines, connected by a Cat5 cable, each with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Its handy if these spaces are close enough so you can see both screens/work both keyboards from the same place.Initial analysis showed I didn't have enough room to move everything, so elected not to move picture files (jpegs). C: drive on the new machine is only 256G so photos would have to go onto a secondary drive (4TB USB) later. Transfer of files went without issue, taking several hours.Transfer worked fine! When I finally set up the new machine (accounts, etc) and logged on as admin, I got the flash screen from the old computer! Here I was on the new Dell, with the old eMachine flash screen!Found out why the transfer overloaded on file size. Did a search on *.jpg on the old machine (untouched by the transfer) and found the wife has over 86,000 jpg images! Majority of these were hi-res right from the camera. I transferred these to the new 4TB drive using Win software.Short story? Highly recommended! Only gave tech support 3 stars because I didn't need it.
