Penn-Plax Age-of-Magic Wizard’s Castle Aquarium Décor – Resin for Freshwater and Saltwater Fish Tanks – Large (RRW8)

I have a smaller pond (1000gallons, 7x15) and I have full grown, large breed, SA cichlids.. so finding any kind of hides or decor is a challenge. I bought this bc I love the other pieces I have bought from Penn Plex (the maker), especially the large castle with side A & B, bc it’s enormous and perfect for huge fish. I am aware of the given dimensions for this castle, but knowing the company, I just envisioned it to be bigger. It’s 10” but it’s dwarfs itself next to their 2 part 18” castle. I have plenty of Convict fry at bottom who would probably love it, but tbh money is tight right now, so i’m not trying to buy them another decoration when they have plenty. This was specifically for the big fish to hide behind, bc it is 10”H, but after opening it and inspecting it, I can confidently say they will never pay any attention to this bc it offers them no protection or privacy to sleep, so i’m returning it. If I had a smaller tank in my house though… this would easily be my first choice because any smaller fish would love every part of this… but i’m talking very small like tetras or cory’s or something like that. The archway openings are maybe 1 inch at the most, so not even an adult convict would be able to get in there. Actually, I just measured and they are exactly 3/4 of an inch wide.. that’s why I am saying very tiny fish. It’s not a matter of just them fitting, it’s a matter of is it big enough for them to swim fast at to try to escape without brushing against something and hurting themselves and their pec fins. So any tiny fish will get the most benefit from this, but it’s not cheap, however it is worth the money if you have the right fish for it. Or maybe you just want it lol it’s a great piece with insane attention to detail. If I was really into mid evil castles or whatever this might be cool. and FYI I have one side of the large castle that has been outside underwater for 3 years and still looks great when it’s clean. It’s the exact same as this castle just bigger. I didn’t buy the second half until 6 months ago (bc I didn’t know it existed) and yes you can tell one side is older but not as much as you would expect from a hand painted piece.. and this piece also will last years and years, especially not in sunlight like mine is. Everything I have ever bought from this company is A+, even their 3 piece spongebob aquarium set 😭🤣. This just doesn’t suit my needs right now 🤷🏻‍♀️ maybe i’ll buy it again in the future but more than likely i’ll just get another side A or B or both of the extra large castle they have. It’s two different sides that look fine by themselves but when you add the other side it turns into one massive castle that connects by a bridge that becomes one large bridge when they are next to each other. So cool lol you should all check that out.. it’s about $45 each side but sometimes you can get a deal on “used like new” resale. Penn Plex is a very reliable company and id buy anything they make it I liked it… it’s absolutely worth the extra $10 or whatever more it is than their competitors.

I bought this fish castle decoration for my 10-gallon tank, and it’s been a hit — both with me and my fish! The design is super cute and adds a fairytale feel to the aquarium. The castle arrived in perfect condition, is much heavier than I imagined it would be, and it's just beautiful! I just placed it in my new tank, so it was a perfect time to snap a photo to show you what it looks like. To be honest, you could use this on a desk or mantle instead of an aquarium because it's just that nice. There is nothing about it that looks cheap. I was concerned that it would not work in my tank as it's 15 gallons, but the top is well below the water line. When I add my plants and large Goldfish, it will be awesome! I'm so glad that I found this because I wanted something without the usual bizzare plastic plants attached, or trees on the castle, etc.. Believe me, you will really be impressed when this arrived. I've not seen anything quite this size for the price, much less as beautiful at local national chain stores of any kind. If they did had this, the price would far exceed the price on Amazon. Some folks have expressed disappointment with the size of the castle, I thin they probably purchased the wrong size. For my 15 gallon tank, the large size was perfect as it is the centerpiece of my tank. I think the small version would have been too small. The larger version shows off the great detail of the castle, too. You'd probably loose that aspect on the smaller version. It really just comes down to which you personally prefer for your own tank and what "look" you are going to try to achieve.

This is a more sophisticated take on the typical fish tank castle. The color is saturated and moody and it looks great with a darker color scheme. My betta is able to fit through the main opening and loves popping out of the side opening, and my mystery snail loved it until his shell grew too big to fit, LOL. I have it in my ten gallon and if the water level is low the tip of the tower will poke out, but otherwise it’s the perfect size with lots of useable space inside. It looks awesome straight out of the box, but I do NOT advise adding it in immediately. I had to do a lot of sanding to smooth out sharp edges, and had to close up the towers inside and a window opening with sponge so no one would get stuck, as other reviews suggested. It is a bit of work, but it really is a good looking piece of decor. After the sanding I’ve had it in with my betta for about three months now with no issues. Recommend if you’re willing to take some time with it!

I’m really glad I found this double castle. It’s actually 2 pieces you have to order separately so keep that in mind if you want it to look like mine. It’s hard to find large decor items for big tanks so this was a really good find! I added the red LED lights and a separate bubbler that I recycled from an old volcano in my previous aquarium design. I think it looks amazing!

The castle looks really great! Compared to the price of other similar size accessories for fish tanks, this castle is definitely good value for money in terms of it's size and the attention to detail. It feels sturdy enough to not be tipped over. I haven't placed inside my fish tank yet so no photo. I made the effort to write a review for this because my first order arrived damaged, but I requested a replacement straight away and even though they asked for the castle to be returned, another castle was dispatched for me that same day. The second castle arrived perfect, thank you. Both castle boxes had a 'fragile' sticker on them, but were placed inside normal Amazon boxes which did not have fragile written on them anywhere. So, I'm not sure who's supposed to rectify that problem.
