RAD Sportz 12 Volt Electric Co-Pilot Air Compressor w/Gauge for Bike or Auto

This was a great product for a while. At first I loved it. After about 2 months the power switch broke, so it would automatically turn on when I plugged it in (thankfully it didn't break in the off position...). After about 7 months the PSI gauge stopped working properly. I filled my car tire two days ago, and it was reading 60+ PSI when the tire was below 20. It still fills the tire quickly, but I need to check the PSI periodically with another gauge to be sure it isn't over, or under, filled.The compressor itself works very well, and quickly. But, the extra features die in a short lived amount of time.EDIT: It seems the PSI gauge just doesn't work well in extreme cold maybe. After the cold of winter (I live in ND) began to subside, the PSI gauge is now reading properly again. Power switch is still garbage though.

Solidly built but anemic portable air compressor. I've had several AC compressors that died prematurely so I read the reviews on this unit and pulled the trigger. Be wary of the claim "Inflates an average car tire to 30-35 PSI in approximately 2-3 minutes", as it takes about 6-7 minutes to fill a 235/65/16 Jeep tire from 35 to 50 lbs. Plus it gets really hot and I strongly suggest letting it cool down for 10-15 minutes, or after filling 4-5 tires. If you're doing 2-3 cars worth (12-15 tires) it may take 1.5 hours or more (including rest periods).The hose is coiled and very flexible and the car charger cord is about 12' long (adequate). The hose has a screw on connection which can be detached quickly with little air escaping.In summary- I like the build quality and although it's not particularly strong and takes awhile to fill tires it was a good purchase.

I have had a number of portable tire inflators. The best was an old hausfield portable that lasted over ten years. They don't build em like they used to anymore. I had several that burn out shortly after the 1 year warranty period. My last was a Typhoon, but it burnt out after just three years and occassionaly blew the fuses, plus the plug broke and there were other problems. This RAD so far (I had it about a month) works very well. The design is excellent, the unit is sturdy and the plug is sturdy. The cord can be wrapped around the unit and their is a storage hole to keep it in place. It runs fine from the car socket as well as my ATV auxillery without blowing the 15 amp fuse and fills a tire in a respectable amount of time for a portable unit. Pretty quite and good cord length with the expandable hose. THe motor does slow down noticeably as the tire pressure rises and at higher pressures I had to cycle the on switch to get the motor started, but that is the trade off if you want one small enough to run on a 15 amp cicuit. THe pressure gauge also is fairly accurate - you have to take the reading when the unit is turned off for accuracy. The next test will be time - lets see if this unit outlasts the warranty by a reasonable time.The review above was written a month after purchase and I had rated it 5 stars for features, etc. Last week, now about 17 months after purchase, the unit stopped working. I took the unit apart, which was easy with just a few screws and see that there is a plastic crank shaft that powers the air compressor from the motor. This shaft broke and while the motor is fine, there is nothing to power the pump. It appears to be a special part and I am surprised that plastic would be used for a part that is under constant torque and stress. So I dropped the rating to 2 stars because of reliability issues. Otherwise a good unit. My next project will be to see if I can get a replacement shaft easily or if I must purchase another unit, which will be something different. Its unfortunate because I really liked this thing.

This compressor is built well. Unlike other models I've owned, this one has some heft. Nothing rattles, nothing flexes, and all parts appear to be solidly attached. The noise is minimal compared to others I've owned, and the compressor stays in in place while pumping, without floating away due to vibration. The PSI meter seems accurate enough and most importantly is not affected by vibration - on other brand, I've had the needle be a blur due to the pump action, leaving me to guesstimate the actual PSI from the range of the needle vibration. I tested it on one sedan tire so far, which I raised from 15 to 32 PSI. No problems, and the pump didn't even get warm.What might be a negative is the hose fitting/attachment (the part you connect to the tire) - while it seems to be made of quality materials, it is the screw-on type, rather than the snap-on. So while removing it i lost a little bit of air. On the other hand, once screwed on it stays snug and secure. BTW I like the coiled air-hose, which makes the whole package more compact and easier to wrap up when done. Also the 12V power wire is long enough to reach from my front dash to the rear tires with a little bit of extra length to be sure.Also, while the pump itself seems to be of superb build-quality, the carry-bag it comes with seems like an after-thought built by the lowest bidder. The pump barely fits inside it, the material is losing threads, the zipper broke the first time I took the pump out, and one of the plastic buckles snapped when I put it back in - all on the first try! So toss the bag, but the pump itself is great :)

buen precio accesible, en unos pocos minutos infla las llantas y bien infladas si utilizas gato las inflara mucho mas rapido muy buena herramienta para las emergencias lo unico malo es que se calienta un poco todo el compresor hay que estar abusados ahi saludos

Great Little Unit, Will do Car Tires as well as Mini-vans,I have used this for over 3 years now to keep up with car maintenance, it does Car tires fast, i bought one for my Wife's Car, then showed my family how well it inflated their car's minivan tires, so they purchased one and haven't had a problem,Buying another one for my Car now, As always its recommended to have your car running while using this as it uses a lot of power, and you wouldn't want to drain my Battery Reserve Power.Does heat up after use, but that's to be expected its not an excessive heat, but does Inflate Tires Fast.Its a must have, even just to check your Car's Monthly PSI Rating which you should be doing.....

It plugs into the cig lighter and when we pulled it out the plugin part landed on his leg and BURNT him. To the point he now has scars on his leg.. What a fire hazzard.

bought as part of sons xmas gift. Used it for first time yesterday turned on unit worked well then tried to turn off and the switch failed. Switch got loose and does nothing. Unfortunately not able to return although it has not been used via return policy.

Itcomes well packaged and has a better hook up to the tire than most. Certainly better to have one than not have it and need it when you have a long walk and its through bear country.
