Sounds good, full-featured
I honestly can't imagine buying this and returning it because of the Bluetooth connectivity specifically, but hey, different strokes for different folks. Me personally, there were a few different features I was looking for in a replacement receiver. The newest audio formats for sure - my previous receiver couldn't handle Atmos or DTS:X. The ability to overlay graphics (such as volume) over HDMI - my previous receiver could passthrough 1080p on HDMI, but without any visual indicators on top. Chromecast built-in, as I use Google Home devices for voice control. My display is still 1080p, but I was looking for something with full 4k HDR capabilities for the future. And my speakers are very sensitive so I knew I didn't need more than 100w. Long story short, when I saw a good deal on this I couldn't help but pounce. I've still only got a 5.1 setup, using Klipsch KLF20 mains, a KLF-C7 center, and KSP-S6 rears. This is paired with a SVS 16-46CS+ subwoofer. Auto setup worked well, setting my crossovers for all channels at 40Hz. I typically bump that up to 60Hz for the rears, but the setting of 40Hz isn't really completely wrong. Sound quality so far is pretty good. AccuEQ doesn't sound quite as good to my ear as Audyssey on my previous hardware, but I wasn't able to do direct A/B comparisons. The graphic overlay that I wanted is definitely nice to have... but the fonts and everything do look a little dated. Not a bad thing because it communicates what I need it to, just something that I noticed. Honestly turned Bluetooth off immediately, because again I plan to use it for Chromecast when I want to play audio from a phone. It appears that it supports AirPlay 2 as well, but I don't have any Apple devices to test that with. Chromecasting works great though, and I can add the receiver to my speaker group for whole-home playback. The on-device Sonos/Pandora/TuneIn/Spotify apps are something I'll never use so I can't speak to that either. There's a lot of sound mode settings that I sort of have to figure out. There's a bunch of different Dolby, DTS, and THX modes to expand the audio and virtualize additional speakers, in comparison to just using DPL IIz before. I'll most likely be adding height speakers at some point, but that'll be further down the road in my upgrades. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the purchase so far. It sounds good, is fairly powerful, meets all the feature needs I wanted, and I got a good price on it. What more could I really ask for?

The perfect receiver
After months of research and failed experiments with a base model Sony and Yamaha Aventage, I have finally found the perfect receiver (for me anyways)! I’ve had a Rotel 1560 that basically came with my house. It was an older model and I was looking to upgrade to 4K, Bluetooth as well as Atmos (which I already had the speaker configuration ready for) without giving up the sound quality that the Rotel provided. Also, I was in no position to spend $1500-$2K on a stereo so it wasn’t an easy fix. This Onkyo met and exceeded all of my needs! HDR on my PS5 is amazing! I’m getting even better sound from my speakers than I ever did on what was supposed to be a high end AVR (the Rotel is overrated imo) and the Bluetooth works perfectly. I’ve read some complaints about that on here but I’ve found that if your receiver and Phone/ipad etc are on the same internet it solves this issue. Furthermore, I absolutely love that I can sync my TV, stereo cable box and subwoofer amp so seamlessly that when I press the power button on the stereo remote, it turns everything on or off.

Good Recevier for the money.
Fantastic Receiver. I was impressed from the start. Though I find one fault with it. The volume control. could be louder. Its not as loud as my last Onkyo Receiver And you have to turn the volume up a bit more on the dial. Lets say when 45 would do in the past that now needs to 55 or 65 for some items. Over all I am very pleased with it. It can operate 3 zones I do not use these for Surround. I use them specifically for other rooms or outside speakers. Zone 3 is Patio. Zone 2 is outside and zone one my Room. You do not have to use them specifically for surround. Also make sure that when you buy this Receiver that you also buy as many Banana clips as you need. I Got the Elbow kind that have a bend or Angle in them to allow the wires to hang down as the regular banana clips would force me to keep the Receiver farther from the wall. Another smaller complaint is that the Last Onkyo I owned has PC RC Connector inputs this one does not. and I have to use another designation for my PC connection. other than the much smaller Jack input provided. Other than these minor issues. the Receiver is fantastic and is workable. I also like the newer app that you will need to work the receiver via WIFI. I always look to ONKYO for quality products and I am seldom Dis pleased by them.

An okay system for the price
I bought this receiver to replace my TX-NR676 receiver after the HDMI board stopped working and could not find a replacement board to fix it. The 797 is almost identical to the 676 except for a few tweaks. however, I still prefer the 676 because of its compatibility with my projector's ARC HDMI. the 797 does not respond to the ARC HDMI and would not come on automatically when I turn on the projector as the 676 does. I was also usually able to control the audio of the 676 with my Roku Ultra remote but it does not work with the 797. So, I am now left with turning on the projector with one remote, turning the receiver on with its remote and setting my Roku channels with its remote but must use the receiver's remote for audio control. This is a pain to juggle aal these remotes. Finally, the receiver does not have any built-in video streaming app. it has only the usual music streaming apps. I cannot get it connect with Alexa or Google even though the instructions say it does.

Etc etc...

Just wasn't impressed. Sound was ok. Volume is strange, it doesn't activate until you turn the dial to 41. I mean what are the 40 notches before that for?😄
