The Wise Enchanter: A Journey through the Alphabet

Wonderful story for young children--and for everyone!
This is a beautiful story designed for emerging readers and young children just getting familiar with the alphabet, but it's really a wonderful story for everyone about the importance and beauty of language, and of rich and varied vocabulary, and finding symbols in everyday life. It's also thoroughly wholesome, with no violence, attitude, questionable language, or any of the other things so rampant in "children's" literature these days. It's truly appropriate for children of all ages. I highly recommend it.

LOVE
My seven and four year old are completely in love with this book. We are homeschoolers and read one chapter a day at lunchtime. I started reading it to my daughter at bedtime. She is admittedly very sensitive and asked me to read it during the day because at bedtime it is "too mysterious." My kids are both into the story- it is a fun adventure and there is really nothing in it to bother sensitive children! LOVE

Clever, interesting, and adventurous
We read this as a bedtime story for my 5 and 8 year olds. It was a great adventure, but not intense enough to be scary. Of course it was also a wonderful way to reinforce the letters and sounds, since each of the chapters has a theme of a letter, and you hear the sound of that letter frequently through the chapter without even necessarily noticing it. My children noticed on their own that the first word of the chapter always begins with the letter that was part of that chapter. We found it a wonderful reading book, and the children looked forward to every night's reading, and I as a parent enjoyed reading it to them.

A beautiful book for the waldorf path when helping letters come alive.
This is a beautiful book I purchased so many years ago and it is a treasured part of our collection. I used to help some of my children learn the alphabet. We would read about a letter and then put the letter and a bit of the story in our lesson book in bright colors. The story kept them interested and guessing about what would happen next. I like that the story wasn't short or dumbed down for the younger audience, it really helped them build their attention spans. This book can be used in a number of ways and makes a great gift for any waldorf inspired home you know of!

I really like it so far..
At first I was not sure but as I read the first few stories I really started to see what they were doing and how it would spark the child's imagination. My book is a little different then the one shown and yes the pictures are in greyscale.... but in the Waldorf lesson the teacher recites the story and draws a picture. I can use my imagination for the colors.I am keeping it for my 4 little boys to hear!

Fun way to ABC
This book was recommended to us through a homeschool group. My 6 year old would be in her second year of kindergarten at her Waldorf school if not for the pandemic. I am reading her a couple chapters a night and we are both enjoying it. It is a fun way to introduce (or reinforce) the alphabet with imagery.

Love the story - not the style of the book is boring for young kids to look at.
The story is beautiful and fun - the cover of the book is very beautiful in illustration and i iwshed it would carry on throughout the book. unfortunately I don't like the pages and the quality of the paper at all- not appealing at all for a young kid to look at it -this might be good for older readers but not for young ones as they need imagery to get captivated and they like to touch the book and turn pages (papers tears easy)

Great Read
My 4 and 6 yo were really into this book. They seemed to enjoy that the main characters were closer to their age. Planning to re-read this one soon!

Great story
Fantastic way to introduce the alphabet. I enjoyed reading it as much as my little boy loved hearing it.

Refreshing Approach to Alphabet
I used this book to teach the alphabet to kindegartens/grade 1's. It's a chapter book that introduces a new alphabet (in order) with each chapter. There is an illustration with each chapter that reflects the advancement of the plot and that encorporates the letter being introduced. It's a clever way for children to see the alphabet as something associated with life and not just an abstract concept or shape. At first it was difficult for the children to sit through a chapter, but soon enough the children were eager to find out what was going to happen next. We would only do one chapter in each sitting and the children would draw their own version of the picture to reinforce the shape of the letter.

I am SO glad we found this and I highly recommend it to ...
This book got my child reading. We made our own "magic book" to draw along with the children. A chapter per day. I am SO glad we found this and I highly recommend it to anyone, especially if your child loves epic adventures
