Shattered is a Must-Read!!
After having read the bestselling and fantastic book one in the Alaska Courage Series entitled "Submerged," I was eagerly awaiting the release of book two, "Shattered." And I was definitely far from disappointed. With enough twists and turns to satisfy the most die-hard suspense lover, plenty of Christian faith woven in without coming across as trying too hard, and just the right addition of real-life romance, "Shattered" is certain to become a fast favorite. It's the perfect blend! To be entirely honest, I had started to grow disinterested in some of the Christian fiction genre, simply because it all started to seem redundant. Boy meets girl, boy cannot commit, girl wants to commit, something happens in the meantime to keep them apart, then suddenly they see the light and are ready to commit to being married and all ends well. Not saying I don't love a good old-fashioned, simple, happy love story such as that. But on an ever greater level I like suspense, complications, mysteries, something more similar to the loop life can through most of us! And "Shattered" seems to fit that bill. This book focuses in on Reef, a sibling of Cole, one of the main characters in the first book. Upon his return to Yancey, Alaska, the "prodigal" Reef finds himself arrested for murder and the evidence piling up against him makes his chances of gaining freedom slim to none. But his close-knit siblings are not about to let Reef spend the rest of his life behind bars, and thus the excitement begins as they do their best to investigate and question with the help of the local deputy (a long-time friend of the family), Landon Grainger. The main characters in this book are Landon and one of the McKenna siblings, Piper, the girl who has always been like his little sister. Except now, Landon and Piper are facing feelings for each other that have suddenly evolved into something more than friends . . . and this journey of new and uncertain feelings is where the romance in the story enters! Right into the mix of trying to find out who really murdered the poor young woman who was visiting Yancey as part of a snow sport professional circuit. What I loved about this book: I loved how the author seems to never run out of creative twists and turns in the plot that still seem realistic. Also appreciated is the depth and genuineness of all the characters, especially the couple she chooses to use as the main characters (in this novel, Landon and Piper). What I didn't like so much: It is very difficult for me to find anything I don't like about the Alaskan Courage series thus far. So honestly, I'm going to leave this section blank. My rating: I would definitely give this Christian "fictional romantic suspense" a 5/5 stars. I would recommend it to anyone who would like a fresh type of Christian fiction, one that will keep you on the very edge of your seat even while leaving you feeling quite satisfied you read the whole book when done!Thank you to Bethany House for a copy of this book in order to procure my honest review. Please note that all opinions expressed are my own.

Another awesome action-packed novel by Dani Pettrey
I loved the first book in this series so much, that I have decided to embrace the whole Alaskan Courage series and in Book #2 the lost brother returns home but not in the way anyone ever imagined it would be . Reef McKenna is the drifter of the family and has made his living by becoming one of the best circuit athletes and travels all around the world competing. That is until he finds himself caught up in a murder investigation in his home town as his on/off again girlfriend has been killed and Reef is looking like the number #1 suspect. As readers discovered in Book #1 , Piper McKenna is the Nancy Drew of the family and she is desperate to help clear her brother's name and find out who really killed Karli. Turns out though that Karli's life wasn't very clean cut and it definitely points to the fact that anyone could have killed her and a few of them have a reason for wanting her dead and buried. The other thing that the McKenna family has to worry about is Gage McKenna's old girlfriend and mother of his dead son is leading the case against Reef . Will that be against the McKenna's case even more ? Enter Darcy St James, a newspaper reporter who will do anything for the truth - she is hired by Gage to help the family dig up anything that can help with Reef's case for innocence. Meanwhile Detective Landon is torn between loyalties of his job as a cop as the evidence is normally the way to judge a guilty or innocent man and all the evidence points to Reef but his heart lies with Piper McKenna. What will Landon decide to do ? Can he stay partial in this case as the McKenna's will need all the help they can get ?At first I thought that this story's romance thread would be between Gage and Darcy St James as there was a chemistry sprinkled throughout the pages between the two of them but in Shattered - the love line is between Landon and Piper McKenna. Will the pair of them get their happily-ever-after or will the final ruling of Reef's case pull them apart forever ?Find out in the second book of Dani Pettrey's awesome Christian Adventure series "Alaskan Courage".

Alaskan Courage #2
This is the second book in the series. The first book is called Submerged . The others are Stranded and Silenced. The fifth book in the series, Sabotaged, comes out January 2015.At the beginning of this book, we find Landon drowning his sorrows. He loves Piper McKenna desperately but thinks she'll never feel the same way. Then a murder happens and the prime suspect is her brother, Reef. Landon feels like he's part of that family and is worried how Piper will take the news. He's a "play by the rules" person and likes to be logical all the time. He went by his feelings in the past and was burned. He likes to be absolutely sure of things before committing to a decision.Piper is the opposite. She runs on feelings and what she feels for Landon is quickly evolving into love. She feels torn, because she's trying to find the real killer and sorting through her feelings for Landon. He keeps giving her mixed signals, but they're going to have to talk through it eventually. The murdered woman had a very tangled past, so finding her killer won't be easy. The search takes them all over the place, including Canada. The plot has a lot of twists and turns, making this an easy read. I finished it in two days!I love this writer's style. She sets up the relationship between Gage and Darcy for book 3, Stranded, quite nicely, but you're going to be okay if you read them out of order, like I did. The author has a great way of making sure the stories are connected without penalizing you if you skipped a book.

I grew fond of Piper
I read the book, because in the first book in the series I read the beginning the story between Piper and Landon (funny names) and wanted to know what happened to them. Really Piper is a very likable character who you want to befriend. Blimey though, what did the author put the poor girl through! Car crash, spiked and then in an avalanche, plus she was shot in the first book. Surely she'll have some psychological scares for years to come! Nice story, a little unbelievable at times. Also the author has an uncanny ability to repeat the phrase 'he long to pull her into his arms', it grew to be annoying.

Keeps your attention and never lets go!
Great character development, along with suspense to the very end! Couldn't put the book down and it gives you a taste of Alaska.

Good story spoiled by creeping religious references half through.
I know it is an authors prerogative to write how they wish. I wish however books like this came with a warning of references of a religious nature. I have my bible for that!
