Call Girl

She is to me the best actress she just needs better material
She is to me the best actress she just needs better material, though she played this part very well given the dialogue written. Love her and there fore love the movie, because she made it worth seeing. I realize foreign films are different, how people react is very different, so my judgement is based on her talent rather than the actual performance compared to American films. We are less demonstrative, less showy, if you will. But her passion in this poorly written film is what puts it across. I have long had issues with the name of the film, while it was alluded to being about the "call girl" the story unfortunately is more about a near rouge cop, who is over the top and frankly to me, out of control. He comes across as more interested in making a big name for himself than being a good cop. I wish the movie had lived up to it's title and had the main focus on Soraia Chaves' roll. She is a star that would shine far brighter if her material was better written.

Call Girl (Soraia Chaves)
A politician who seem to be honest have been tested by a beautiful call girl to become dishonest and the cops who almost got him for corruption, but failed. Maria a beautiful high class call girl where ever she went she turned men's heads and you can see why. She was tall with legs up to your shoulders, charming, sexy well spoken and intelligent.Twists and turns story splashed with erotic scenes and surprise ending you don't see coming. Great movie I loved it. Only thing ones mentioned by other reviewer subtitles in english are very fast moving so you got to read fast I think because actors spoke fast. Soraia Chaves is hot. If you like this sort of movies do not hesitate and you will get your self a treat.

Amoral, interesting, sexy
The casting of this movie is truly remarkable. The director managed to gather some of the best Portuguese actors and actresses for the main and secondary roles. Madeira (Ivo Caneças) is a hectic policeman which investigate an alleged corruption case involving a politician in a small village in Alentejo. Although quite honest, Meireles (Nicolau Breyner), is completely awed by the unbelievably beautiful Vicki/Maria (Soraia Chaves) and soon he sees himself webbed by the plan that Mouros (Joaquim de Almeida, always a great villain) started with the objective of “facilitating” the huge business deal that is being stopped by the politician. The Call Girl is truly a manipulating Succubus, but even she in turn is manipulated by her weak spot, and this film has a very interesting end which you possibly won’t anticipate. The drama is fine, the casting is superb and the acting is very good. It is also remarkably well directed by António-Pedro Vasconcelos. It has some weaknesses though: the launching plot is truly silly: So a politician of a dying village refuses a huge project that would create lots of jobs, would increase all businesses in the area, create a much needed hospital because of…the Cork Oak trees of the area? Even when the investors plan to plant them in another area? And they even try to bribe the man with 5 Mil Euros!!!!!! And he refuses! That’s simply too idiotic (not that I’m trying to imply that accepting bribes are fine or that I don’t care about nature – I do; I’m just saying that in the real world probably no politician in that situation would refuse the investment, they would even beg for it). There wouldn’t even be a bribe attempt (the Oak trees would have an “accidental fire”). So the plot is quite weak, but the way it develops captivates the viewer. Other weakness is the usage of too much slang and fast talking, even when inappropriate; yes we Portuguese are frequently loudmouthed – true. But we aren’t swearing all the time and in every single situation! It also turns the usage of subtitles for foreign viewers a true hell, forcing them to read very fast and losing the great acting involved. This film could also be smaller, it’s quite long for the plot (although seeing Soraia Chaves in leather and whip is truly unforgettable and it would be a crime to cut those scenes).
