MaxPower 561544XB Commercial Mulching 2 Blade Set for 46” Cut MTD, Cub Cadet, Troy-Bilt, 742-04290-X, 942-04290-X, 942-04361, 742P04290AX

I keep a set of these and a set of high lift blades for my Troy bilt horse riding mower. I use these particular blades at different times throughout the year. They are thick, good and heavy, easy to install, and appear to be very sturdy. They are painted black in appearance.

When I read other reviews I don't think people understand that blades for a lawn mower are not supposed to be sharp like a razor. They would go dull very quickly and chip. These blades are perfect. They cut beautifully and I've cut grass from 8" to as low as 1" and have not had a single problem. Really good blades and if anything happens to them I'm coming back for more.

Received these a couple days ago and replaced my old blades. The fit was perfect, and easy to put on. These blades are much thicker and more durable than my old ones. Completed the first mow of the year and my yard looks like a park! No trimmings to clean up. We'll see how they continue after a few months when grass starts to grow back thicker and more consistent. I do have some experience with this brand with a different set of blades for a different mower, but if these are up to the same quality, then I have nothing to worry about.

So, first off....these blades will deliver to you extremely dull (see image; top is sharpened, bottom is out of the box). I would not recommend installing them directly out of the box and they will need to be sharpened beforehand to get the best results (totally recommend getting a quality adjustable lawn mower blade sharpener and hand grinder). After sharpening, they worked extremely well at mulching the grass properly and were significantly more quiet than my previous Cub Cadet Mulching and Hi-Lift blades I've used in the past. Time will tell if they hold up to the random pine cones I keep missing during my pre-mow inspection.

Purchased these for my Cub Cadet tractor to mulch instead of side chute dispersion. Install took 20 minutes. These are high lift and extremely sharp. Carving knife sharp. They make a perfect clean cut no matter how heavy the grass is. Great product.

UPDATE: Just bought my second set. I had purchased a set of the yellow blades, but I was not pleased with their performance, so I'm going back to these as they performed well on my cub Cadet and gave great results! I was concerned after reading other reviews as Whether I would have to sharpen these when I received them. After installation I mowed my front lawn and was pleasantly surprised by the mulching capabilities and no streaks in the lawn. The blades do what they are intended to do. I live in the south and it’s November which means the leaves are coming down. I arrived home last evening, got my blower out and cleaned off the driveway and around my two trees. After that it was mulching time with my Cub Cadet XT1. It was dry and that meant a lot of dust when mulching, but once again these blades proved their worth! As I mowed over all those leaves, I was pleasantly surprised at how well the mulching blades worked and left very few to go back over. My lawn looked like it had been completely raked! I’ll have to mow again as the rest of the leaves fall, but very grateful that these blades do their job and I end up with that raked yard look!

UPDATE: Since grass cutting season has come around I have removed these blades and went back to OE blades. As far as mulching they do a great job on leaves but as far as grass cutting they are not very good. They actually bend the grass instead of cutting it. So I will just swap them at the end of the year when leaf season comes around to actually mulch the leaves. I couldn't afford a Cub Cadet block off plate for my mower and I just fabricated one. While waiting for these blades to come in I used my old OE Cub Cadet blades which are not mulching blades and was surprised at how well they did. When I got these blades on the first thing I noticed was the RPM's on the motor are lower now and there is a slight vibration in the mower. Now these blades are a little heavier than the OE blades and there is a curve on the mulching blade so I am not sure if this is why the RPMs are lower and because they are mulching blades they create such a turbulence in the deck and they is where the vibration is coming from. Either way the blades do mulch alot better than the OE blades and I am happy with them. I just hope they dont wear the spindles out from the vibration.

One blade bent at gator cutout section on first use, it bent enough to raise and cut through deck leaving a two inch gash with 1/4 blade poking through. Not impressed.

These blades do not lift the grass for an even cut, even with the mower deck set to mulch. The grass that is compacted by the lawnmower wheels does not get lifted. The blades seem to create a turbulence that pushes the thickest grass down instead of lifting it up. They do mulch but leave a middle swath of grass that is not completely cut. I cleaned the deck of my mower, but it did not help. I also leveled the deck to create more lift on the grass. It improved the cut slightly, but is not sastisfactory. I am mowing at half the speed as normal, and it still gives a poor quality cut. These blades work worse than my worn-out factory set that are rounded off on the ends. This new set of blades will have to be replaced.
