The Book is a Masterpiece but Amazon's packing sucks.
Author: Frank HerbertGenre: Science FictionYear of Publication: 1965Set in the far distant future, DUNE is the story of a young boy named Paul Atreides and his journey into the desert planet of Arrakis. A barren wasteland but the only planet in the Universe with the most precious commodity known to existence, the Spice "Melange" (an addictive drug with life-enhancing properties and used for Interstellar travel).DUNE is not just a Science-fiction book. It has immensely profound and mature themes embedded under the riveting epic that it is. Themes along the likes of institutionalized Religion, Politics, Environmentalism, human greed and Spiritualism. Over the years, readers of the book have been able to discern the parallels drawn to various real-world belief systems including Buddhism, Sufi Mysticism, Catholicism, Islam, Hinduism and Judaism.Frank Herbert, the author of the book noted in an interview that his Arab friends liked to call DUNE a religious commentary rather than science-fiction. Also, the story is heavily influenced by middle-eastern culture with Spice being a metaphor for Oil and Water for water itself. And the exploitations of regional societies and resources by Western Civilizations.DUNE is more than a coming of age tale. It teaches you about loyalty and courage and most importantly, how to conquer your fears. It's about the dark side of fanatic leadership and how unbounded power can corrupt even the most faithful of leaders. Moreover, It teaches people to think for themselves and the fallacy of following messianic figures blindly. The language of DUNE is complex, taking inspiration from multiple tongues including Arabic, Persian, East Indian and Old English which could make it a hard read for some people. However, The world-building in DUNE is vivid and immaculate making the reader to get lost in that world and if a fiction book is able to pull that off, it's no less than a masterpiece to me.DUNE is an immensely rich work written by a prolific writer who went on to write multiple other Dune books creating an unparalleled saga of Science-fiction Epic. This is the work that changed the perception of people toward Sci-fi. It is a genre-defining gem that has way more to offer than one can possibly imagine. The deluxe edition looks super cool. The Cover art is really iconic. However, Amazon's packing service sucks.

Engrossing.
In the beginning, there was Dune.Really! When one reads this book, suddenly it becomes clear that without this fantasy acting as a template, GoT wouldn’t have been there. Even from a scifi perspective, this book practicality showcased how topics like terraforming, politics and economics can be utilised to tell an engrossing tale. The world-building is superb. Sandworms are awesome. But towards the end, the characters stopped developing and became loudmouth caricatures. The ending was choked with words and not action. And the mystical plus survivalist philosophy dominating the narrative until then morphed into a madman's ambition. Was this book a product of mid 20th Century Western fascination with Arabia? Perhaps. But the haunting beauty of the beginning and grim struggles in the middle were completely overshadowed by some genuinely disturbing ideas.Yes, it’s definitely a classic that had paved the path for future, including 'Chronicles of Riddick'!No, I am not going to continue the series. Thank you.Production values of this Deluxe version were good. But it deserved lots of illustrations, which were absent.Nevertheless, recommended.

Readable but....
Shaped like a brick.Cheap grey pages. And with a width that small the fear of cracking the spine is always there in your head and training the spine wouldn't help all that much. But I got a 884 page brick for a surprising 327rs so I'll shut up as it doesn't seem all that just to complain now......Edit: (just completed the novel)...... the book has survived......no break in the spine...and no page came off....the cover looks horrible though.... lost its colour and turned white especially at the edges...

Mesmerized
Purchased the book after watched it's movie. The whole world building of this book,it's structure, empires, religion, society it's just crazy. Literally the Book contains its own dictionary to give you the meaning of the terms used in the book. The writing at someone moments becomes slow but the idea of what it means to be a human, and what are the responsibilities of king, father, mother, leader, wife is something that you will learn and it will be with you for your whole life. The interaction between certain characters gives you goosebumps. The whole explanation of ecology and technology of arrakis is difficult to understand at some points but one can clear understand that the author comes from ecology background,so he is trying to make it as accurate as possible.Absolutely recommended, a hidden gem for indian audience.

Dust jacket's looks old because of damage.
The book in itself is a classic, not a problem with that,But the packaging wasn't very careful, and as you can see the dust jacket's little messed up,but thank goodness the hardcover inside the jacket is pretty much fine except a little dent which don't bother me that much,But still Amazon be careful with books.I didn't spend 1600 for a hardcover that looks a little old even if its not.
