Works perfectly for lateral support especially
I have been searching for the perfect brace to support my ankle now since I’ve started walking in regular shoes about a month ago, 3 months following my ankle surgery. My ankle surgery kind of failed and I don’t blame anyone for it, as I have a known condition, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which causes a lot of surgeries not to have the best outcomes. But I deal with that however I can and in this case finding an ankle brace to support my needs is the best way to do so. This brace is fabulous, as long you buy the correct size. I had previously bought the same brace for my right side and the only size available at the time was an extra large, which is still way too big (it’s actually even bigger than it was when I received it because weight loss affects every body part). It definitely doesn’t work as intended unless you have the correct size. But that’s easy enough to choose. I am able to use the brace with or without shoes and it prevents the tendons on the outside of my ankle from popping out of place, which is the main problem I have had since my surgery. This brace works better for me than the custom made Richie style brace I have, which only works if you are wearing shoes with it. I need something that works when I’m too lazy to wear shoes or just want to walk around barefoot. And this is the overall winner thus far. I try out a lot of braces before settling on something normally, so that’s saying a lot. This brace is bulkier than my custom made brace, but it’s also far more comfortable against my sensitive fibula, which I believe has an anchor in it from my surgery. Aircast always seems to be the best solution for my bracing needs, whatever body part requires it.

great brace with good support
Bought this after i broke my ankle and I was no longer in the boot. I was looking for something that would give me good ankle support throughout the day but was also easy to take on and off. This brace was just perfect and gave me the support i was looking for. It is also great quality and after using it for a long period of time Its still in great shape to use in the future should another injury arise. Its also not too bulky so i had no problem getting my shoes on over it. I would definitely recommend this brace.

Comfortable, easy to use, bought a second one
Recent repetitive injury which I made a lot worse when I twisted my foot sideways recently. And the pain on the left side of my foot would get steadily worse as the day progressed on moderate ground or hike before that. Podiatrist informed me that I had repeatedly damaged a tendon? ligament? that runs from the calf, to the ankle, along the foot. Put on this exact brace which I will be wearing non-stop for at least the next 6-8 weeks +medication + physical therapy. The doctor is working to help me to avoid surgery. In any event, am happy with this brace which is holding my ankle securely; the velcro straps are ample and effective in helping secure the brace. (As someone with numerous wrist braces for carpal tunnel, am all too familiar with shoddy ineffective Velcro). The brace fits into soft pull-on sneakers and the Avia "Grit" hiking boot (Avia Grit Sport Women’s Hiking Boots, Mid Top Ankle Trail Shoes for All Weather) e.g. shoes/boots with laces and some expansion at the ankle (as I am wearing light wool socks with it). Well designed for its intended use as recommended by a professional. Liked so much I've ordered a second one, as with continuous use braces inevitably wear. (I was also pleased with the price for the quality, as at least with my carpal tunnel braces you can get a nice soft brace where the metal plates just end up poking through the material. This feels sturdy.) Finally, if injured see a doctor (sigh) as apparently blowing the initial injury off was not helpful in my case; the most immediate injury had me debating for the emergency room; and under professional guidance I felt some immediate relief the minute the doctor wrapped this on. Good product, thumbs up! Not likely you can wear dainty heels with this but I am happy to be able to walk (and I don't like dainty shoes anyway lol). Also pleased I could order from Amazon; no fuss. (I don't work for Amazon but just saying the TrailBuddy Trekking Poles – Lightweight 7075 Aluminum Hiking Poles for Women, Men & Seniors that I purchased a few years ago have also been useful after the injury - used as an emergency cane so I could walk before the brace without screaming).

Worked great for me, but annoying velcro design.
Size purchased: Small The good: This brace worked really well for me for a severe sprain. I hated it the first couple of days because the stiffness of the strap didn't allow me to tighten it well enough. After a few days though it was no problem! This brace allowed me to move about so much more easily than with an ace wrap without the worry of making a wrong move. I believed it has helped me to heal more quickly. The not so good: There is too much velcro on this thing (the rough side that sticks to everything). I understand the extra velcro around the top for people with smaller legs than myself (a bit more on sizing in a minute), but the velcro extends down the brace where it will never be used... by anyone because it's double the width of the strap. Anyway, it sticks to everything. Dog hair, the couch, etc. I ruined a couple of spots on some under armour leggings I had. That is the brace's biggest downfall. A forewarning: I am a woman of average weight. I have boney skinny ankles with larger calves due to many years as a dancer and on pointe shoes. Until I broke the strap in, I didn't feel like I could get this brace tight enough on my ankle while it was already tight on my calf. It ended up working out really great for me, but I feel like if you have quite large calves or might be overweight, this brace may not have a strap that allows you to tighten around your ankle enough. It is one strap that wraps around to tighten for both calf and ankle. It may tighten around your calf, but allow the ankle to be too loose. I think the strap design could be a lot better in respect to this and therefore fit more universally.

Finally...
I have Flat Feet and my ankle tendons are weak because of flat feet. Most days I was walk in extreme pain for years. A pair of braces cost me 500 bucks from a professional Orthotist, but they did not support my ankle. I have spent years trying to find something that works. after my last failure and waste of money, a professional Orthotist me about Aircast. Aircast brace is not perfect, but it's the best ankle support brace I have found.

OK & Size Info
I badly sprained my ankle and needed a good support system for recovery. My shoe size is 8.5 to 9 and I have skinny weak ankles--but it was hugely swollen. So I was on the fence between a small or medium. I ended up ordering the small and due to the swelling it was too tight & very uncomfortable. I then ordered the medium & it is so much more comfortable (but of course you can't return this) I think when the swelling goes down the small will be good for everyday wear. It also depends on what socks you might wear--a thicker sock would never have fit in the small. It seems like a well made & supportive device. Odd strap set up though. The long main support strap wraps around--kind of figure 8 style. The fabric cover to keep the velcro from sticking to things is kind of weird but works OK. I'm still not getting around too much but think this will work well when I start getting back to normal activities.

Worked great
I got this air cast when I sprained my foot/ankle. The doctor did not have the correct size so I ordered it from Amazon. The air cast arrived the next day and fit perfectly. I'm very happy with it.

It Makes A Difference!!
I got tackled by an off leash out of control 100+lb. dog. Fractured my ankle. I was in a ortho boot immediately after the injury. The boot was heavy. I had a knee replacement on the same leg about a year ago. This brace was my saving grace. I was able to walk with it on .That made a huge difference. The Velcro straps really hold things in place. But on the other hand, arthritic fingers will wrestle with them. Wear with laced up snow/hiking boots tall. And sneakers. I would walk around the house with it on with a sock. It supported my travels (at times precarious) on stairs and staircases. Albeit slow travels, but doable. I give it 4* because the side bars cut through the bottom of their casings and pinched. I had to replace it. Couple of months old. Watch out for price shifts on this bracelet to the turn of 40.00! That being said, it definitely gets you back on your feet!
