F-106 Delta Dart Illustrated

Great photos & description of the F-106 Delta Dart
I liked it, especially that the artist drawing on the front cover was of my former squadron's aircraft. Many of the photos were of aircraft and members that I personally know.

Somewhat of a disappointment
I ordered this book (released in November of 2019) expecting a lot from aviation artist Lou Drendel. Lou's artwork certainly has been a mainstay over the years and thus when I found the photographs therein to be somewhat fuzzy (not sharp and precisely focused) and the overall color production of an inferior quality, I immediately contacted Lou to ask about this. Lou replied that he has his books printed through AMAZON services and that if I had any complaints about the quality of the book I should take it up with them. Unsatisfactory response, Lou! Lou's operation (Aviation Art Inc.) should be far more attendant to the sort of quality control one would expect in graphic art works from a person of Lou's rather lofty status. At any rate, that leaves me with an imperfect book (that Lou said AMAZON should and could exchange for a 'better' copy, but this entirely misses the point). It's Lou's book and he should shoulder quality control concerns pertinent to his published books. The historical details of the Six in this book mirror much of what has been rather well-covered elsewhere and it was unremarkable in that nothing new has been disclosed; but as Lou said (in his book), this is principally a picture book (QED: need for better quality control).Get the book and judge for yourself, but as an aviation historian with special interests in the Six, I remain somewhat unimpressed overall.

Lots of history.

Quality not as good as other books in the series.
Numerous typos and lots of the pictures and some of the text were quite fuzzy. A little leary of buying any more.

Not Printed by Squadron/Signal Publications
When I bought this book, I was expecting the same outstanding quality that I have come to expect from Lou Drendel"s books - its not.............Amazon did not QC these copies. The pictures were fuzzy and not in focus..........the diagrams were not sharp enough to read or follow.I was a crew chief on the F-106 and I wanted a good photo book on my favorite plane - I did not get it.I am very disappointed and while I have another book on my wish list (reprinted by Amazon). I will not be getting it because of the poor quality........since I live 30 miles from Columbia, SC - I did get my order quickly (2 stars).

Poorly done
I have a number of books by Lou Drendel and this one just doesn’t hold up. Most of the photos are out of focus/ fuzzy; and there are number of misspelled words and typos in the text. Lou: at a minimum, you need to run this through a spellcheck/edit program before publishing. The text is barely readable. As for the pics, I wouldn’t mind paying a few more bucks for a book with laser-scanned photos and better quality paper.

Leaves a lot to be desired
The text is fine, as would be expected from this author, but the photo reproduction is poor. The major reason for my purchase was for the photos, and although the photo selection is very good, the majority are printed as though they were run through photoshop to produce a defocus effect. Many are far too soft to see any detail at all. Unless I can verify that this problem is corrected, this will be the last book of this series I purchase.

the book came in great shape
I use it for the history of united states air force fighter aircraft

A flawed production with the usual Lou Drendel virtues
The book is typical of prolific aviation writer Lou Drendel's much-loved work, with very interesting personal narratives next to technical data, development and opernational history. There is not a single work by this author which I do not cherish. I also appreciate his "subjective" approach to certain disputed political aspects of Cold-War and recent conflicts. But ... the book is let down by the terrible production ... The book looks much like the product of a colour ink-jet printer employing refilled cartridges long expired rather than a proper book ... Most other books in the series are printed in budget paper, but print quality is acceptable, and the pictures are more or less sharp. In this particular volume, there is not a single sharp photo. Very disappointing, indeed, even more so because many of the photos are original and have not been published elsewhere.

Join The Dots
Sadly I wish that I had researched the reviews before I bought the book.As with all of Lou Drendel's work the concept is great and had more attention been taken by the publisher during printing that would have been the case with this book as well. General impression is that every one of the illustrations , charts and artwork look like they have been reproduced at low-resolution using an out-of-sync dot matrix printer , they are universally awful which is a great pity as they would otherwise have made an excellent reference source. There are one or two typos but they can hippen anywhere but otherwise the main problem is in the imagery.Suggestion to the publisher (printed in Great Britain by Amazon) do it again , get it right this time and replace the copies already sold.

Poor graphics
I would like to start with the good things. The content meets my personal expectations, development, units and a little chapter of a mission profile (an interception). Is explained in detail, from the pilot seat. Easy to read and understand. I couldn't have asked for more, in a book this format. However, the big let down is the printing itself. Is printed on cheap paper, the text is blurred, and worst, the photos. The photos, you can tell, there are amazing, but on the print paper all of them are blurred.I don't know if this is a common problem, or just my copy is like that.In my case the whole thing is not a great value for the money.
