The Equinox: Keep Silence Edition, Vol. 1, No. 1

Best prinintg of the Equinox in 30+ years
Let's get some confusion out of the way, first -- the Amazon listing is offering the Keep Silence Edition (KSE) and another soft-cover print-on-demand edition in the same auction, and the reviews are conflating these two printings...The bad reviews are from the internet PDF money-grab-edition, not the KSE. The KSE is the best edition probably since the 1970's Weisers' and the original printings. The editor has done great respect to this work and it shows in every detail. We can't post URL's in reviews, so you should probably search out the editors page to see what this edition is all about. These are better bindings than probably 90% of the books I get from major publishing houses now a days.People that are buying stuff like Crowley and Occult books **DON'T** want PDF prints with offensive glossy covers. We all know where to get PDFs of the Equinox. Scott Wilde "gets" this, and that's why you should support his effort by purchasing the KSE of these books.

Not protected properly for shipping
Could be shipped better. It was just loose in a box and the corner was smashed. Ima book collector so I like my books to stay in perfect shape.

Exceptional Quality Facsimile, Exceptionally Affordable Price
I've spent years looking for an affordable facsimile edition of "The Equinox". Previous facsimile editions have run in the thousands, often with luxury bindings like the originals. Cheaper "Print-on-demand" editions have been printouts of the "Frater TS" edition, which was not an exact facsimile. This "Keep Silence Edition" provided here is a far more affordable edition available in hardcover. It's perfect for the budget-oriented reader, or a library. The text is available in it's original layout, and type. You'll even find advertisements in the back, as with the original. Art from the original is reproduced with exceptional quality. An enormous amount of effort has been put into this edition, and it shows. When Wilde has finished this ambitious project, I look forward to having purchased every volume produced. If this first volume is any indication, they will be wonderful. The "Keep Silence Edition" will be a beautiful addition to your bookshelf, and will stand as a generous contribution of work to benefit the Thelemic community.

5 stars now, tho considering a lot fewer
A lot of us who have purchased the numbers 1 - 9, and including a number of folks I know personally who are waiting to see all 10 numbers made available before purchasing the set, are beginning to wonder if #10 is ever going to be made available. The work so far has been very strong, but that all goes out the window if it remains incomplete, and we are so close! I know a digital version is available, but nothing beats a book with pages through which you can flip...

An amazing book. Very deep and poetic including; stories, teachings. A way to "initiation".
I believe as stated this a very interesting and fruitful work. Mostly The reason I post this is to help with balancing the stars, as I am thrilled with the book, and is the original editing. It is obviously not the $150-$250 average per earlier out of print re-issues. One can only wonder ( or google) the original book price. Thus I am very thankful for this price for the series and am thrilled to dive in, already really enjoyed "the magick glasses" so I imagine a "initiation" is a head.Always as you know who cares what I or any poster says get or do not as you want. It's not really fare, this is about the book, not only including editing, I would give a 4.52 as pic scans and in all should be a bit smaller print and is shown, not bad though at all.

A faithful reproduction and standalone work.
This edition of Vol. 1 of The Equinox (I) is, quite frankly, the model that other self-publishers need to base their product on. Every detail within and without has been meticulously attended to with a level of care and attention that shows a deep love and respect for the source material. The cover manages to look "old timey" without looking hokey. The interior is exactly what you'll find in the compressed White Brick set, but in a larger font and with heavier paper. Other than that, everything is exactly the same.I can't wait to have a complete set of these books, and I applaud Br. Wilde for this efforts in this project.

Hardback Only
Makes sure you are buying the Keep Silent (Hardback) version. The paperback is a different version, and is full of errors.

A long overdue & welcome edition
Top marks to keepsilence.org for this beautiful set. Until this edition there were just three options open to us:1. Spend literally thousands of pounds on an original set....if you can find one for sale, that is.2. Fork out several hundred pounds for the 2 volume Weiser edition, again if you can find a set for sale. The last one i saw in a bookshop was priced north of £500 several years ago now3. Get the PDF copies and go to a printers shop (this was what i did). There is of course Israel Regardies "Gems from The Equinox" which contained the meat of the set but was lacking the often delightful garnish (ie The Magic Glasses in v1-1).When i saw this series at £22 to £25 a volume i bought all 10 immediately and am delighted with these reprints. They are facsimile editions of the originals (with different bindings) and a superb addition - nay, centrepiece - of any library.100 years on from original publication, this work still stands head and shoulders above anything else in the field and even a cursory reading leaves you in no doubt of Crowley's incredible grasp of his subject. With content ranging from simple exercises to complex rituals and always accompanied by "do not take my (or anybody else's) word for it on faith alone but instead only accept as truth that which you have personally verified.....and proceeds to instruct the reader in a clear and concise manner.Highly recommended.(I wonder if we will also see vol. 3 reprinted as well? Even though some volumes in no.3 are quite recent it would be grand to see hardbacks of books like 777, book of Thoth and The Blue Equinox in a similar fashion. My paperbacks just do not last these days. The price is exceedingly cheap as well and i suspect these are being sold almost at cost.Get your set whilst they are still available as i suspect supply may be limited.

A fantastic reading copy of a title that has been out of print for far too long.
Please notice that due to some sort of internal bug in the Amazon system, a lot of reviews for this title are mismatched. My 5 star rating applies to the latest version, the "Keep Silence Edition", which is a meticulous reproduction of the first edition of 1909: in fact, the first time ever that a volume of The Equinox is printed from a precise digital photography reproduction. The volume is great: clear images, clear text perfectly rendered, and all the bits and pieces of the original, including the interesting advertisement pages. Card quality is decent: not top notch, but for a print-on-demand title it is far exceeding my expectations. All in all, a fantastic reading copy of a title that has been out of print for far too long.Looking forward to the next 9 volumes!

Five Stars!
A friend told me about a top quality reproduction of The Equinox and within moments I made my way to keepsilence.org and I was greeted with a superb collection of outstanding, detailed work. These gems are so beautifully treasurable. From the reproduced cover design to the page layout you cannot go wrong with The Equinox-Keep Silence editions. I will order the following volumes for my collection. Many thanks and love to everyone involved for bringing this historical, magical literary series into our hands again. 93s, Thank you!

Not a real hardback.
It is unfortunate that the editors have made such a creditable effort to restore the text and then undermined those efforts by choosing to use an online digital printing service, rather than a proper one. This is not a proper hardback, it's a very cheap 'glueback' paperback book with a cosmetic hardback shell. That means that, over time, pages are going to come out because, despite bearing a superficial resemblance to a hardback, it is not bound in signature, nor is it stitched. This could have been a lovely book, but someone decided to go for the cheapest possible printing option and, sadly, it shows.

Great edition
After having passed up the opportunity to get the equinox volume 1 collection for a song (the white one in the box) in the late nineties, I was rather excited when I noticed this edition! Good value, nicely done, like the cover. Only two criticisms: the typeface is a little large, and (sadly) the illustrations (in no.1 at least) are all black and white, whereas at least one plate should've been in colour. The former is just personal aesthetics, the latter however is a little annoying given the fact that the colurs used are usually significantly symbolic.
