Works But With Drawbacks
Date of use: 15-23 June, 2023. East London UK. Temps ranging from 14-16 degrees at night to 22-24 degrees day. Concrete hi-rise building, low direct sun, building warms slightly by late afternoon, no or low cross breeze. Temps forecast to hit 27-30 soon. The unit cools you down when blowing directly on you, but it will not cool down an entire room. We were hoping the bigger unit would somewhat cool a room, but it didn't.Even with humidity levels at 35%-45%, by design, the unit will only cool you down if you're sitting directly in front of the fan, even using the ice packs.By design, the unit expels a lot of moisture back into the air, which increases humidity levels making the design counter productive. After two weeks of use, a wet-dog smell was being noticed. In hindsight, we could have spent less and purchased a smaller unit but then, these units go through a lot of water. We work from home so we would go through the entire 42 liter tank in a single day.We have hard water in London so in combination with rising humidity levels to 55-60%, the side filters began accumulating limescale deposits after just 12 days of use. The unit began making gurgling sounds, which was the water spilling into the safety overflow holes. Humidity is now approaching 70-80% and the manufacture states these will not work properly at more than 60% humidity. The claim that this unit is ideal for medium to large rooms up to 50m² is redundant and a moot point. That may apply to air conditioners but it has no relevance to an air cooler -- which is not cooling down a room but rather, just expelling moisture into the air.I'm posting this so other may make a more informed decision before buying, as I could not find any detailed reviews about air coolers.I just purchased a well known made-in-the-UK brand portable air conditioner.
