Toast, then crush, then soak
Great peppers for flavor, with low heat. I've found that the best way to cook with them is to toast them dry in a hot pan, then remove the stems and seeds, and then pulverize them in a mortar and pestle. It really helps break them down. Then, I soak them for a bit before using a food processor to fully paste them. You can try soaking them without the toasting portion, but I found that they get a little leathery and don't want to turn into paste as easily.

As advertised
These chili peppers are very mild which is what you would expect. This is the first time I had Kashmiri peppers and I they are a good value. Personally I like more heat but if you have a recipe for Kashmiri chili, these are what you want.

Delicious
I made some chili crisp with these chilis. It's a blend of chilis, garlic, and other bits to create a delicious topping for noodles or whatever. Chilis like kashmiri allow you to get a ton of flavor with a very mild heat. These peppers are honestly not much hotter than black pepper, but they are incredibly flavorful. Totally happy with my purchase. Would recommend.

This is not Kashmiri chile, it may be grown in Kashmiri but it is not the low heat variety.
I have purchased this item 3 times the first time it was Asian Kitchen Kashmiri chili whole and that was exactly what it was. The second time my wife purchased 14 oz of Rani Kashmiri chili whole and it was a blisteringly hot chili not Kashmiri chili. I thought Rani being a top company of authentic Indian spices surely they would get it right when I purchase the same exact thing. I now have 21 ounces of chili to hot to use for Kashmiri Chicken Masala. I have opened both bag and they can't be returned anyway so I'm stuck I really wish Rani would say exactly what was in the package, now I will have to give Spice World a try. Kashmiri chili is supposed to have a heat range of 1,000 to 2,000 SHU what I have says 12,000 to 15,000 SKU, the recipe I use has 2 Cups of Kashmiri chili powder at that rate this stuff would be compete torture and it doesn't taste like Kashmiri chili anyway even if I backed off to a tenth the amount . Not sure why I can't contact the company
