A lovely read
Truly enjoyed this book and it left me feeling more appreciative of the relationships around me, inspired me to gather with friends more and it just might tempt me to garden someday soon. Really written well and lovely.

How gardening heals a family
This was a selection of our garden book club. We enjoyed reading it and discussing it. Some of our members related to the setting in the Pacific Northwest and all of us found parts of the family relationship we could identify with. Once in a while the author felt sorry for herself, but all in all, I would recommend the book.

Less than perfect is still good to me!
I enjoyed this book. The writer shows understanding and compassion for a mother who perhaps did the best she could in less enlightened times. I also enjoyed her descriptions of a less than perfect garden which I can identify with soooo much! Ok, it's not my favourite book of all time but it sure kept me turning the pages.

This is a sweet memoir of a family that comes together and comes to understand each other better, in part, because of a garden. The author's own journey is gradually revealed and you come to appreciate with her the life lessons learned. I enjoyed the writing and it was a fast read.

I felt like the author captured many of the same feelings that I had regarding my own mother. And also her experience with gardening somewhat mirrors my own.

Slow-moving
I like gardening, and books about gardening, but this was just a little too slow for me.

beautiful story of a garden, family and growing a community
I loved this book. So many parts of the story spoke to me, especially the longing for community and the trying to grow family memories from the kitchen. If you love food or gardens or both, read this book.
