Reads like a FBI report.
If you are looking for a story on the Chicago outfit, this might not be your book. I found this book to be alot of short chapters that read like a FBI report. The author was head of the C1 crime unit and while he gave alot if information on individuals within the outfit, the book was also filled with lists of names of the FBI men working each case. While it is a very thorough study of case histories, it was somewhat tedious to read. I often felt the author missed the mark on why things happened within the mob because he couldn't stop thinking like a g man. If you want facts on cases , this is your book. If you want to know about the dealings of the Chicago outfit and why they did what they did then you need to pick a book written from a different point of view.

very enjoyable read
I personally know and admire the author very much. Reading the details of his career has increased and expanded my respect and admiration for him and his most colorful career. I lived in Chicago during much of the storytelling that took place in this book. I remember many of the names, places and news worthy events that are depicted in this book. It was enjoyable and informative to get the behind-the-scenes story on many of these events. I would encourage anyone who has been attracted to the many stories, actual or depictions from Hollywood, to read this book in order to get a true flavor of what really went on behind the many stories. Congratulations to my good friend Vince Inserra on a job well done with the FBI, Kemper Insurance and the epilogue of his life, this book.Richard Gagliani

Organized Crime, Chicago, and the "Good Guys"
Vince Inserra and his FBI colleagues were the "real-deal" in Chicago, Their unique talents, investigative skills and creativity are memorialized in a fun and informative style in "C-1 and the Chicago Mob". Inserra's historical accounting of what the good guys (and some bad guys) did to organized crime in Chicago and around the country is a treasure!

I worked for one of the other agencies that contributed to the war on organized crime, especially working on investigations for the Strike Force. Reading the book, you'd think the FBI was the only agency successfully investigating the Chicago "Outfit," but that was not true.

A real eye opener.
While I remember many of the names mentioned in this book, I had no idea the extent and vicisousness of their activities.

Interesting History
A common citizen does not always realize what is happening around them. Luckily we have people like Mr. Inserra with integrity to protect them.

Good, but a little wordy.
Good Chicago book, a lot of details that could have been left out, but pretty much up to date info.
