Cool looking...but not as easy to install on the disc due to size
ProsI love the look of this lock. I love the idea that they added a clip to it. The construction is hefty/rock solid and I love that its smaller than most other disc locks.ConsThe cons are pretty much all related to what I mentioned above that I love about it.As mentioned earlier, I love that this thing is small because its easier to transport, however, since it has a small footprint, it is a mutha to get aligned on one of the disc openings. Ive tried practicing a couple times and its much harder to get on than the standard designed disc locks that have a longer necks because with those types of locks you can angle it to more easily see where the disc hole and the lock pin are located when trying to attach the lock. You cannot do that with this lock because it is fully covered by the lock. You have to pretty much key pressing the pin in and moving the grenade around to hopefully find the hole in your disc, which in turn it scratching up your disc. I have yet to try it out and about but I imagine this is going to be annoying to get on when Im in a hurry and dont have time to fuss around. This isn't really an issue, but the grenade itself has quite a bit of weight to it which is nice. But it also makes the clip they added not as useful depending on what you are clipping to. I clipped it on my pants and since it had weight to it, it was pulling my pants over. If you have a sturdy and tight strap you are clipping to it should be fine. But I rarely ever wear belts. probably would work better clipping onto a bag strap of some sort.IMPORTANT***These locks were manufactured long ago. So its likely you getting old locks when you purchase. Why does that matter? Well...because the mechanics inside have not been oiled / greased for a long time. This is something a customer might not be expecting when ordering this. I installed this to see how it fit on my disc and it got stuck. The key would not turn fully and the lock never popped out. Actually....the lock never popped out even when I first tested it. I had to pull the key to get the lock to come out but I just assumed that was the way the item functioned because it didnt mention there being a spring inside in the instructions. Some 3-in-one oil, some wait time and finally some force (without breaking the key thankfully) got this off. Would have been a nightmare if this happened away from home. And good luck trying to cut the pin without ruining your disc if need be. There is no wiggle room to get at the inner pin when locked. Possibly drilling out the lock would be your best bet.Full disclosure....The product I actually own is exactly the same style and build, but it is a Voss brand lock. Where I bought it from was listed as a Deemeed lock but what I received was a Voss lock. And funny enough, if you search for the Voss lock on amazon which is shipped and sold by Voss, if you look closely at their posted pictures you will notice it says 'Deemeed' on the clip. Very confusing, and I imagine a lot of people are going to get the same mixed results when they order these locks (receiving a product different that the brand listed). That being said, they look exactly the same and I imagine they function exactly the same, so you should expect the same issues I mentioned above regardless of what brand you receive. One thing I can say is that I dealt with Voss support during my issues and they were super friendly and helpful (Thanks Ashley!). They mentioned the Chrome style grenades have smoother operation because they are not painted so I am going to give the Chrome model a try ( i originally bought the black), and will update my review afterwards.Overall, I will live with it for a while and see how it goes since I already bought it. But if I never get comfortable enough practice to get this grenade locked within a few seconds of trying, I may end up going to the standard designed ones because Ive owned those in the past and I was able to get those installed fairly quick.***UPDATE 08/16/18So, Voss was kind enough to send me a Chrome lock to test out since I was having a problem with the functioning of the Black one I ordered (from Motorcycle Superstore), and to make things even more confusing to what I mentioned about about the Voss / Deemeed product confuson above....the lock directly sent to me from Voss is a Deemeed brand. So I really dont know what is going on with that. There is virtually no difference between the two locks other than the branding on the clip and the box art. Both are made in china. Voss is located in Canada and I believe Deemeed is a German based company. As to wether the Chrome works any better than the flat black due to paint issues, I cant really say thats the case. The newer one they sent that is chrome is definitely popping open smoother, but I think that is more so luck that I got a good one rather than a defective one.The black one is more functional now that I jammed some lube in there. It still doesnt open 100% smooth, but also, the chrome one as is also functioning the same. They both pop open so much and then there is a little tug extra you need to give with the key in order to fully retract the pin. Not a big deal at all. Just worth mentioning incase you thing there is something wrong with your. It just seems to be the normal operating nature of the lock.Hope this all helps.
