Great book!

I have read every book in print about this man. I wanted to satisfy myself that I understood who Michael Jackson was, and I consider this volume to be one of the most important works on the subject. Excellent treatment of the man’s contribution to music and his unique genius. Read this one. Essential to understanding the importance of a global megastar.

This book is an awesome read! I normally don't put much stock in critics, but this book is a refreshing take as it delves into the process of crafting the music, it's a unique perspective and gives great insight into the genius of Michael. The title really does say it all. I highly recommend this for any MJ fan or music enthusiast.

A must-have for MJ fans! Learning a lot about the stories behind the albums and the songs.

Great book

Vogel focuses on the creative process that is Michael Jackson. It’s rare to find since most books often focus on the artist’s controversial life. Vogel looks at the development and critique of each album (and their songs) throughout his solo career. We go through the ups and downs of Michael Jackson's career and life, the music in his mind, the world, and how he worked to convey his music to the world. It’s really well written. Listening to MJ, when you really LISTEN, you’re not just listening to a singer. You are listening to a true visionary in the industry. You are listening to a man with great passion and talent. IMO, MJ breathes life into a song and makes you feel it like no other musical artist can or ever will. All I can say is that MJ is a multidimensional singer (more a storyteller) who appeals to everyone, from metalheads to jazz lovers and that his music truly is escapism. That’s why his music and its accompanying videography will remain timeless. That’s why he will forever be dubbed the King of Pop Rock and Soul. Michael’s success in experimentation beyond any genre really surpasses others who try to experiment. No doubt, MJ studied the greats and has now become one of the greatest. In later years, the music industry truly overlooked his ability, but I don’t know if the music industry will ever surpass the pure brilliance of Michael Jackson. I don’t think a “pop” artist will ever captivate our attention and ears the way Michael Jackson still does even to this day. While MJ’s adult discography is not that large, the quality is profound and distinguished. It is the result of a hard worker and perfectionist. I miss him and I’ve been listening to Michael all my life and this book is a very much necessary guide to getting an in-depth look at a musical genius. I recommend it for any MJ or music fan.

As a lifelong Michael fan, I have read a lot of books about Michael. This one is a must read for anybody interested not just in Michael but in music. The author triumphs above the gossip and especulation and chooses to focus on Michael's craft and what made him and his music unique. As I read through the chapters, I returned to the albums. I am now experiencing the genius of MJ and his music under a different light.

Chegou rápido e intacto. Por ser capa mole, fiquei com medo de amassar ou fazer "orelhinhas" no livro, mas veio bem embalado. Gratidão!

A decent book, gives you insight about songs and albums by mj though the only disappointing part is the lack of photos only album arts are shown in as photos whereas the first edition had more photos. But anyway it is a good read for Michael Jackson fans.
