If you live in a hot climate, these are great
I live in the western Florida panhandle, and we get periodic droughts, which can really stress smaller or younger trees. After reading others' reviews, I purchased six of these and placed them around my young red maples, tulip poplar, river birches and Japanese cherry trees. The results have been excellent. When I opened the package I thought they'd left out the materials inside-- I only felt a little bit of filling. But I followed the instructions and put two at a time in my shop sink, and turned on the water and let them sit for the recommended five hours. WOW. They got huge. At that point I took them out to two trees, removed the mulch, placed these rings and re-mulched. The results have been excellent. The only problem I encountered is that I got careless when installing one of these and I dropped it into position while full to bursting, and split one of the seams. I decided not to send it back, since I felt it would still do the job. But I was careful with the others, and had no more problems. So when they're full, they're HEAVY, and soaked with water. Sort of like a bloated tick! These are a bit pricey, but you should view them as a permanent install for your young trees. Set them into position and leave them. Keep an eye of things of course, should a drought occur.Highly recommended.

Good product. Excellent customer service!
I have been using the tree water rings for over a month now. They seem to be doing exactly what they are supposed to. The trees that have the rings do seem to be growing better than the ones that don't. When I first received the rings, I followed directions to fill them and both tore at the seam in about a 1-2 inch section. I contacted the seller and they asked for photos and the batch information so they could make sure there wasn't a quality control issue. They also promptly mailed out 2 new rings and assured me I could still use the torn rings as they weren't hazardous to the environment. I would definitely buy from this seller again.

Works OK and Helps Extend Watering Days
Nice simple, easy to install product. Used it for a new 15g tree transplant. Seems to work but does not last the 20-30 days as stated. I get approx 5 days of use out of it before having to "re-soak" it. Seems like there should have been more absorbing compound inside the compartments.

It seems to be working!
I have had a terrible time getting evergreens to grow since we moved to a high altitude/arid/extremely windy climate with no sprinkler system. I've killed about 10 baby evergreens I tried to plant in the last few years (I see them in many neighbors yards so I know it's possible though!). I'm hoping this one will be different with this bag in place. I've attached photos of the process of soaking the bag that arrives with what appear to be very small rice grains (but are some sort of water storing crystal like polyacrylamide) in a large rubbermaid container and watching it swell and fill up. The bag expanded a surprising amount! Holds a lot of water for sure. Took several hours for it to get fully expanded. I saw the reviews saying it was somewhat fragile so I dragged the entire rubbermaid container (after dumping out the excess water to make it lighter) over to the tree so I didn't have to carry it far. I just balanced it on my forearms and pulled it out of the bin and gently placed it around the tree base. It was easier than I thought it would be. I had to sort of pick it up slightly off the ground to make a few adjustments but had no issues and it all stayed intact. Then covered it all with mulch, as you can see.I thought there was no chance of this tree living as it had almost NO root system when I took it out of the pot (usually the potted plants I buy are full of roots so this was alarming) but it's been 2 months now of HIGH WIND and low rain and scorching sun and it's still alive and the candles are starting to turn green! I'd be willing to bet money this tree would be dead by now without the constant moisture provided by this bag. It's still holding water well and keeping the ground moist (but not soaking wet) and I'm still hand watering as needed to supplement the bag. So far so good but the true test now is waiting to see if it survives the dry and windy winter. It does seem pricey for what it is, but if it actually gets my trees to grow and I don't need to replace them every spring it will be well worth it. So I will report back next spring if this tree survived a full year or not - but right now I'm hopeful!

These are too expensive for what you get
Not durable, cheaply made, with little to no beads. Arrived with a bunch of loose threads and very little water saturation beads that are very hard to evenly spread around.. I’ve had other brands of these that are more durable for the same price. If it doesn’t pop right away hoping it will last the season at least. I’ll review again if it doesn’t. I can’t believe this thing cost $22.

Happy Tree
I live in Texas, it's been very hard to try to keep my young pecan tree alive the past year, so far the tree diaper is helping it thrive in an already crazy hot May and I don't have to worry about forgetting to water it every evening!
