Good camera for the price.
The camera is good for a 2 mega-pixel. The build quality is good. The case is surprisingly heavy. I am using this as a security camera for the front door.Next one I buy will have a higher power zoom lens and mega-pixels. Also, it doesn't do great in dim lighting. Otherwise, it's a great little camera! Well worth the money if it meets your needs.

2MP 2.8-12mm Varifocal Lens USB Camera CMOS OV2710 Sensor
This wide-angle to short tele lens model is being used as a PC camera (UVC).The good:Image IQ is decent in good light and sensitivity can be partly controlled with a manual aperture ring. That also affects the depth of field.Varifocal (type of zoom) lens allows for tighter cropping than the typical wide-ultrawide lens on a webcam.Camera works in Windows 10 without any drivers. It is literally plug and play, which is great for good for WFH on corporate computers.Manual focus avoids the camera auto-focusing to and fro. (Some might find this a con.)USB cable is long and thick, so placement is not an issue and it should be durable. The bad:The 1/4-20 sockets are not flush with the body of the lens, so there is very little surface area to contact and they tend to rotate on hard mounts. The two sockets allow for upright or hanging options. The lens quality is mediocre. At the wide end there is hard vignetting in the corners and serious barrel distortion. At the long end there is moderate pincusion. Image is better in the middle third of the zoom range. The lens is varifocal (not anywhere near a parfocal lens that maintains focus while zooming) so the focus must be changed when zoomed in or out. The zoom and focus controls are very small and easy to inadvertently move, so plan to set up the camera at a particular setting and leaving it there for the session.

Chromebook compatible, standard 1/4 20 mount above and blow, great performance!
Works perfectly on my Chromebook. Standard 1/4 20 mount both above and below. Good low light performance. Great picture. Zoom and focus easy to figure out. No microphone (which is a plus in my mind). Couldn't ask for more!Keep in mind that 2MP is more than most laptop Webcams. You really don't want more than that eventhough this one has siblings with more.

Usable, at close range.
Ordered the 2.8-12mm version, received the 5-50mm version in a box marked for 2.8-12. Still usable for my needs. Lens is sharper than expected - if you are within the focusing range. Zoomed to the 50mm setting it will not focus very far away 7 or 8 feet is about as far as you can be. That improves rapidly as it is zoomed out. Lens has a 3 blade iris diaphragm that closes into a somewhat arrowhead shape giving a strange bokeh to out of focus highlights. The image is also vignetted quite a bit and at the wide (5mm) setting has significant barrel (fisheye) distortion. The attached images demonstrate. The blurred picture is at the 50mm setting, subject was at 12 ft from camer and could not be focused upon. The other picture is at the 5mm setting and the doors were about 15 ft away. The imaging sensor seems to be of high quality, wish the lens was of better quality.

Suitable overhead camera for demonstrating bench skills
I've been using it as an overhead camera so I can demonstrate bench-top work and draw while streaming or recording for teaching, it's perfectly adequate for that. The 2.8-12mm offers a good range of FoV (Field of View) for capturing a table from a couple feet up while staying out of the way of your head and hands. Standard 1/4-20 tripod holes on top and bottom offer flexible mounting. The permanently attached USB cable with in-line detach is a little odd, but not a problem for my use-case. Having control of the aperture is helpful for killing glare and adjusting depth of field. It does have a few slightly annoying features. The lens is distinctly varifocal so you will need to adjust focus any time you change zoom, and the controls are pretty sensitive (but lockable). The FoV changes with resolution mode because it adjusts crop, so watch that your streaming/recording software doesn't change resolution automatically or you might accidentally find yourself out of frame. It's not a fancy camera body, you aren't getting high-end production video out of it, and the lens has a bit of distortion and vignetting especially at the ends of its zoom range, but these things offer a lot of functionality for the size and price.

Very disappointed
I am very disappointed in this camera. I have to wonder if the one I received is defective or the reviews are fake. The overall image quality is good, and that is the only positive thing I can say. To start with, there is lag in the image on screen and the picture distorts if I move too quickly. I have tried a number of things to fix this without any luck. I have tried connecting it USB 2.O and USB 3.O ports with no change. I have connected it to a powered USB hub to make sure it had sufficient power to run, no change. This is connected to a powerful computer with a fast cpu, 24gb of ram and a dedicated graphics card and it still lags and distorts. I also found the picture to be dim. I have it in a room with professional video lighting equipment, and despite the reviews claiming it performs well in low light, I had the aperture open all the way and the image still appeared dim in a well lit room. I may exchange it and if I do, I will comment again on the review. What I can say for certain is that the unit I received is utterly useless as a web cam and I would advise everyone to not waste their time nor money on this camera.
