What type of base is this lacquer? It's kind of important to know. The only place I've seen a reference was review that says it's nitro, doubt it.

It is Nitrocellulose Lacquer. I've used it for finishing guitars as part of a complete nitro finish.

Can this be used on a wooden sign painted with acrylic paint?

You can apply any finish over any other finish as long as the one you're covering is dry (cured) and roughed up a little. Lacquer should cover acrylic with no problem. However, if this sign will be used outside, lacquer is probably not the most durable finish you could use.

i have cast iron parts that have been spray painted with metallic spray paint would this seal and dry to a hard finish?

It should adhere to another paint, but there are too many possible variables in terms of solvents used in your original paint. The only way to find out is to do a test. I had very good results with the laquer on wood and metal parts. No sanding needed between coats. Dries quickly and is a very strong finish. I have only used it for interior use. It has a rather high VOC content, you want a respirator for application. All in all a very nice and easy finish.

I want to spray a stained wooden guitar gloss. They had 1 can gloss and 1 can satin. Can i spray the gloss over the satin?

I would wait till u can get another can I don’t recommend combining the two I think one can should do the job Lee
