Dictionary of Patron Saints' Names

I bought these for gifts for my children for when they have to think up names for new children to the family.The audience of this book is definitely Catholics, especially traditional Catholics who know something about saints, whether they be confessors, virgins, or martyrs. So if the user isn't Catholic, they might be scared off by the information about how the saint died when thinking about giving that name to their newborn. You'd have to find more information about the lives of the saints elsewhere, as this collection of names can't possibly give all that is known about any particular saint.

This is an excellent book, bigger and far more thorough than I realized. It has nearly every name imaginable and the author uses creativity and a rich knowledge of Catholic history and hagiography to offer at least one patron saint, but usually several, for any given name.I am currently trying to choose a name for my sixth child and this book is an invaluable tool. It goes far, far beyond the typical names you think of as having a patron saint.In fact, it can be quite humorous. If you want to know who in the heavenly realm could be a patron if you choose to name your daughter "Teacake," you'll have to buy the book.

Extremely useful book. It is not just useful for picking names of your own children. It has been fun to let other friends, family members, and studetns in various classes we teach help discover origins of their name, patron Saints, etc. Have been using this for years and bought this one as a gift.

This book if fine, but it is no so much a compendium of saints' names as a resource for finding a patron saint for pretty much any name.

This book was interesting. It gave the meaning of names and also the lives of the saints. However, it did not their causes is why I gave it a four star.

A very comprehensive book of all the saints names you want to know and choose for your new arrival. You will be able to see the many variations and what they did that made them a great saint worthy of their name.
