I swear, every shampoo manufacturer known to mankind has been thinning its formulation down to the wateriest version they can get people to still buy. So frustrating. The thing is, a thick, concentrated shampoo is so much more effective at cleaning your hair, and such a much better value for the customer. But in the era of never-ending corporate greed, they want you to buy more, More... MORE. So, the shampoo manufacturers have nearly all made their products thinner to force you use more, and buy more product more often. Shameless. But, not all of them. I made it my mission to find a shampoo that is thick, effective, and affordable. It took months of testing, but in the end I rediscovered Prell, and what a relief that was. Prell was around in the 80s when I was a kid, but I never thought much about it until recently. After trying dozens of shampoos over the last half-a-year, when I opened the container of Prell for the first time in decades, I immediately knew my search was finally over. What a relief! Prell is so well formulated. The viscosity of this shampoo is the thickest I have found on the market today (February 2026). I can use the smallest dot in my hand and my hair gets perfectly clean so quickly and easily. I can put slightly more on my bath brush and scrub my entire body thoroughly and effectively. This product is so amazing. It is refreshing to find a manufacturer that is still committed to making the best product they can, and not the most money they can. Bravo, shampoo people! I have bounced around, trying all kinds of shampoo brands. From cheaper to more expensive, nothing compares to how Prell leaves my hair and scalp healthy, squeaky clean and light and fluffy. I tend to have an oily composition scalp, so the conditioner isn't really necessary for me. I've tried it, and it worked fine, without too much weight on my hair. So, it's out there to accompany this shampoo if you usually use conditioner. Call it nostalgia, that cool green color, or awesome scent, something is alluring about this shampoo. Perhaps it's because: IT SIMPLY WORKS!

At 76 years old I am still using Prell. It has a nice clean smell suds up great and rinses out great. Since I have gray hair now, it still gives my hair plenty of shine and is gentle on my scalp.

I unashamedly admit that I have strong product loyalty when it comes to hygienic products. I'm am a "do-it-yourselfer" who is retired and performs physical labor two to four hours a day around our property, requiring two showers a day. Prell shampoo is a detergent-type shampoo which I use as a whole-body product, and as such is great for oily skin. It is unscented (at least to my perception), and has no lotion component which could leave a residue, both characteristics which I require.

It is getting hard to find Prell in stores so when I saw them online I jumped on it and placed an order. I love the clean feeling and how light my hair feels after using this, it washes away all the accumulated residue from other products and leaves my hair soft and shiny; I do not use it every time though as it can be drying if you're using it all the time. I put a bottle in the guest bath and have had many guests who loved it and said they would get some of their own; some of the younger guests had never heard of Prell, but they are converts now. I would give 5 stars but this is not an animal friendly shampoo and the company (Neoteric Cosmetics) is still using animal testing.

This is the decades-old classic gold standard of clarifying shampoo. Great stuff. Fantastic for deep-cleaning buildup. Tip: dilute with water before use. Lathers just as much, and rinses easier, plus saves money. Win/win/win. I have a shelf of shampoos to choose from each wash day, but if I had to choose one only, I would pick the Prell. As long as you have a good conditioner to follow it up with, this stuff cannot be beat. Plus it's cheap! What's not to like?

This shampoo is so hard to find in the stores so finally found it on Amazon and bought several bottles. My husband has been using this since he was a young man and it is the only shampoo he loves. I do not like it but he does and will switch up once in a while only because he has itchy scalp once in a while. Says he likes the way it cleans his hair and make his hair feel. Do not like oily or greasy feeling hair or fly away so it is perfect for him. Price is still good after all these years. I am glad it is still on the market.

I dont know if its the product i received or its all like that but i had no problems with my scalp until i started using it , my scalp started getting really itchy everytime i use it and i get breakouts all over my head

Very fragrant shampoo with lots of foam that also nourishes the hair. Sehr duftiges Shampoo mit viel Schaum das auch die Haare pflegt.

I am 80 and began using Prell as a very young man. At one point the company changed the formulation and I stopped buying it. The reason was that it no longer suds adequately and did not get my hair clean. I suspect it was a cheaper formulation. Apparently others felt the same way as the "Classic" Prell quickly returned. I went back to it as it has been the only shampoo that I have found works well for me
