A superb vampire movie
I am surprised at some of the lukewarm reviews here, as I thought 'Frostbite' was not only one of the best vampire films I have ever seen but was executed with real skill by director Anders Banke. Delicious cinematography, an interesting but not overplayed story and decent performances from the cast made this a riveting watch from start to finish.Banke clearly knows his stuff and doesn't miss a trick throughout this tale of a town that is beseiged by a vampire plague during a month of perpetual darkness (think '30 Days of Night'). The run-time is perfect and every scene makes the most of the worthy script, building intrigue and tension. The story is wisely kept relatively simple, though not at the expense of intelligence. It's superbly crafted but just doesn't bog the viewer down with unnecessary exposition. The underlying humour also makes sure that this film never reaches the realms of pretension. As for the vampires, they are pretty vicious and uncompromising and their relentless massacre of the town's human inhabitants is painted quite bleakly by the end. They are near unstoppable and the ending (not to spoil things too much) suits this portrayal nicely. I also enjoyed how the film focused on the newly infected vampires dealing with the change, rather than the tried and tested method of following humans in their desperate attempts to survive (though this is in here too!) There's also a fair bit of blood and guts, though this thankfully never substitutes the narrative.Of course, I should say that it won't be a movie for those who aren't into vamps or horror in general. Also, the fact that it's a Swedish film sadly means that many will never even hear of it, never mind actively seek it out. But, if it were a mainstream movie, then surely cult status would beckon for this little gem. If this is your thing, I urge you to give it a go.

silly but fun vampire comedy teen scream type thing
Threw every single cliche it could think of at the plot including garlic and mirrors and stakes and world war 2 soldiers and if you can't see the vampire (wheredhego?) chances are skitter skuttering on the ceiling...All the teenagers were pretty annoying and I was hoping that they'd get eaten and NOT come back sooner rather than later.Special effects were okayNot terrible. Won't watch again.Easy to watch.

Great Swedish Vampire Film
Not as recently made as I had expected, 'Frostbite' is a 2006 Swedish vampire flick with a lot to like about it. It's a great story about a mother and daughter making their home in a small Lapland town after the mother has taken a job in the local hospital. This coincides with an outbreak of a vampire 'virus' being unintentionally released on an unsuspecting, mainly teenage group. It's all quite clever how the plot is developed and interest is built in the story logically. But it does take quite a bit of time to get going - the editing might have been a bit more judicious and cut out maybe 5 minutes or so just to up the pace a bit. There is very clever use of humour with just enough to keep things light but not enough to make the descent into camp. The special effects are particularly good with great makeup and with vampires jumping and hiding up above, surprising their victims from trees and ceilings and other out-of-the-way places. This film is great entertainment and quite a bit of fun with a pretty good ending wrapping things up. Just be aware that the spoken language is largely Swedish and there are English subtitles.

Frostbite.
Really not that great. This Swedish comedy/ horror rather falls between those two stools, being not very funny and not really horrific (despite the gore). The storyline, which starts with real potential, is largely dissipated by the humour - and I'm sorry to say that Swedish humour doesn`t travel as well as their designer furniture. On the plus side, the special effects, creature design and make-up is very good – the UK DVD contains an interesting 30 minute featurette devoted to this. The picture quality is fine on a large-screen TV and it is clearly subtitled in English (do note it is in Swedish/German).Not a total loss; you may like it more than I did ( a couple of drinks might help), but It's a mediocre effort in line with most comedy/horror B-pictures that regularly appear on the Freeview Horror channel. You decide if you want to give it a go, but I wasn't impressed.

Teenage Scandinavian Vampires
I think 'Frostbite' is a Swedish movie. Whatever, it's theme is very similar to (although predates) '30 Days of Night', so much so that one wonders if '30 Days' was based on 'Frostbite'. Anyway, this movie is a bit of a laugh as the young actors ham it up at a party where a mystery drug turns them into bloodsuckers while the police fluff about in usual filmland mode, the local hospital is as empty as the beginning of '28 Days Later', and the snow looks like it might be real.
