The Tilley Treasure

There is More To be Found Here than the Treasure of Wilson Tilley
Because of it's relative isolation geographically, Pulaski County, Missouri isn't well known even to the average researcher. I discovered it because I was searching for a particular family - the Tippetts from Lawrence County, TN in the early 1830s. When I learned there was a story about an early settler, Wilson Moore Tilley, son-in-law to my research target, Josiah Tippett, I was elated. The book covered more than I expected; a well-written range of history about the area, which includes present day Fort Leonard Wood, local politics and the harsh environment both physically and socially that came with the upheaval of war, the murder of Wilson Tilley and the subsequent military trial of his son. I would love to read more about this interesting area.

A modern living book
The thing I like about this book is what is missing from most educational facilities today. Most history today is written in such dry boring tones that you don't bother retaining anything you read. But this book is lovely! It's a historical account written in an engaging way, by an author who both knows and from all appearances loves his subject. It draws you in and you forget that it is actual history. This is what I call a LIVING book. It's excellent and I have recommended it to many homeschooling moms to be read as part of their Missouri history classes.

Review of The Tilley Treasure
Dear Amazon: Once again you have notified me of a book you thought I would find interesting, The Tilley Treasure. And you were correct I loved the book, five stars. But also once again I might be a bit biased about this book because I am the author. As SilverSpringsGirl recently noted in her review the book covers much more than just a civil war buried treasure that was found in 1962. It offers a very telling account of strife and life in the tormented state of Missouri during the war. With almost daily Confederate raids into Union ocupied Missouri and guerilla action everywhere a lot of people died in that strife. The Tilley Treasure will give you a very unique view of the civil war. The War of the Rebellion Official Notes lists 1,162 battles and skirmishes that were fought in Missouri.
