Build it yourself. Not assembled in any way
I thought I was purchasing a robot that would come in a box, and all I'd have to do is turn it in, but that's not true. You literally have to put the whole thing together. 4 AAA batteries are needed, they are not included. The instructions are extremely clear, no words just pictures. You will need a very tiny Phillips head screwdriver, like the ones that come in an eye glass repair kit. It says you'll need a diagonal cutter for trimming the burrs off, but I didn't need them. I just chewed them off. If you're able to follow directions pretty well, then it should be fairly easy. All the parts are lettered and numbered. DO NOT CUT THE PLASTIC PARTS IN ADVANCE, because you won't be able to identify the parts when it comes time to use them. When you get to step 2 there will be a tiny gap after installing the motor with connecter (part P13) don't worry that it's not 100% flush. I did that part twice because I thought I messed up, but I didn't.

Love this little robot!
This is the cutest thing ever!! All though it doesn't do much, it was fun to put together, a little challenging, but a great little robot!!

Great for kids who can play gently.
Keep in mind that this is built like a Tamiya model kit, if you aren't comfortable with cutting and fitting the plastic parts, you probably won't have a good experience.Overall it is a great kit! Went together pretty easy. I lubed the gears with white lithium to cut down on the gear noise, but it didn't help. Follow me mode is iffy, ours only seems to detect within about 6", but the explore mode is a lot of fun for kids.

It WILL break
Don't buy unless you want to ruin Christmas. Got this for my kids and gave it to them early. The parts are very weak plastic and will break. 5 minutes after we finished putting it together the on button basically pushed into the head and keeps doing it and button is not always responsive. It is loud and annoying to turn on. Follow and object detection works but is buggy. Building it was the only real fun part. Absolutely wish I had bought something else. My kids looked forward to this and it is just junk. They want to play with their robot but at this point turning it on is frustrating, the legs keep breaking (as in the plastic keeps breaking apart), it's loud, and it seems like it constantly is ineed of being taken apart and rebuilt. The time it takes to set this guy up is going to last more than rhe fun you have with it. Extremely disapointed. Would return it but my wife threw the box away. Totally not worth my money or the disappointment it brought us.

6 year old built it with minor assistance!
It took about 3-4 hours and you have to be gentle with the pieces. Steps are easy to follow and my 6 year old was able to do 90% of the build himself. We helped with the screws and little things like that. you are literally building a robot so it’s not gonna be a 5 minute build lol. It seems a lot of the complaints are from people not wanting to take the time to actually build the robot. This is an introduction to AI and should be met with patience and kindness towards the parts of the robot and your kid. Give urself some grace to, just because it’s for 10 year olds doesn’t mean it will be easy or fast. 💖

Cute in the face, too loud and fairly difficult to assemble
I wouldn’t call it giftable unless the person you’re gifting it to has an extreme amount of patience. This was a drunk purchase, and when it arrived I spent two days assembling it. The trick is not to break the pieces until the instructions require them to.The instructions were okay up until the end when it comes to attaching the legs to the actual head of the robot. The instructions aren’t clear on which side of a rather large plastic piece is supposed to be fitted. The instructions also could do a better job of explaining how lose or how tight a screw should be, as once I finished my robot, he was barely able to scuttle forward. This is basic robotics, and if an adult can’t make it, how can a young kid be expected to?Also, this is a loud toy. So loud it scared my pets, and it’s not even a cute robot noise loud, it’s like trashcans colliding loud.Since I have built him, I haven’t turned him on a third time, because I feel for his pain.

Great for the price
After reading some of the negative reviews before purchasing this for a fun project with my 9 year old I was a little skeptical of getting this, however, I was surprised by the detail of the instructions and the ease of installation along with the quality of parts for the price. It is definitely a parent child project as my 9 year old wouldn't have been able to do it themself, but after a few hours it worked great the motion sensors work very well. The sound level of the robot is not near as loud as some of the reviews made it seem to be.For the price, it is a great value. Make sure you have small wire cutters as you will need them to cut out the parts and remove the burrs.
