Roland the Minstrel Pig

Just a joke, your majesty, just a joke.
Perhaps Steig's best children's book. The characters are well drawn and there are many elements a child can relate to: art, ambition, adventure, deception, danger, justice.

A Classic for Kids of All Ages, 3-103
Whether ass an animal story, an allegory of the artist's life, an (unintended) satire on the deceptions of Fox News, this is a classic that one can never tire of rereading. I have given this book as a gift dozens and dozens of times, only stopping to white-out the single blotch in its perfection, the line "he was lying to him," I suppose a line that Dahl's editors insisted on including just to make sure that no young reader is deceived.

Early Steig
Nice interpretation of the Song of Roland.

Meet Mr Fox without his suit!
This is an early Steig, 1968, where we meet the nasty fox for the first time, sans his New Orleans suit, and the delightful Roland, who is the prototype for many of Steig's innocent heroes. Oh, a Steig book, is there ever anything wrong with them? NO!! They are simply delightful.

Hilarious
William Steig at his usual brilliant self, the illustrations and text are both a joy and very funny. I highly recommend.
