UPF 50+ Sun Hats with Flap Neck Cover

This hat was a great purchase for me. I work as a mail carrier in the Texas heat and it provides nice protection from the sun. It protects the back of my neck from sun burn and is also light weight and cool, breathable too.

This hat is perfect! It's lightweight, but creates a good shade, and the cover in the back is nice. It fits great my eight year old daughter (admittedly, she has a pretty large head for her age) and me and my husband. It's unisex and looks great on all of us, so can be used by any of us on trips. For a price, this is a wonderful purchase -- greatly recommended for adults and kids.

I am on a chemo med that can cause skin damage from the sun. I feel confident, although I still use a SPF 30?on my face, that I am protected from harmful sun exposure. On a windy day the pull up cord keeps the hat from flying off. It's a good feeling to feel protected!

I got this hat for deep sea fishing, to shield my fair neck from being sun-burned and prevent my fine long hair from being fried in the sun. The hat works, and it fits my head. But the colors are not as shown. The first hat I ordered that looks white with a light tan neck cover, is actually medium gray with a camouflage color pure olive green neck cover. That color annoyed me, and I didn't have time to return it, so I quickly ordered the one that looks light bluish-gray with light yellowish-tan neck cover. That one was actually dark charcoal gray with medium tan neck cover. Since I had two hats, I then took scissors and cut off the olive green neck flap from one to make it into a swimming pool hat. And I used the charcoal one for the fishing trip.

I ordered this because I thought it would offer good sun protection, but the material above the brim is so thin, you can see objects through it. It is not much thicker than a handkerchief. This is not a problem if you have a good head of hair, but if you don't, it offers about as much sun protection as a handkerchief on the top of your head. This is a problem with many sun hats - where the material above the brim is too thin. You can't see this problem in the product photograph. So the description UPF 50+ is only accurate fro the brim and the neck flap - but not the top. If you have a head size of 7-3/4 this fits nicely. It is hard to find hats that size, and another reason I ordered it. Also there is a problem with the neck flap in that it doesn't come far enough forward. It will cover your ears, but not your cheeks. Nor will it protect your eyes at a low sun angle. I returned the hat for a refund because it is totally useless for my purposes. I already had an "Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero Hat" which you can buy on Amazon that fits well. It has excellent sun protection above the brim, and breathes well, and is Gore-tex. It is sold on Amazon here: Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero Rain Hat, Khaki/Java, X-Large What I have done for good sun protection in the tropics is to use the "OR Seattle Sombrero Hat" along with a 27" x 27" olive green bandanna under the hat. For best sun protection the bandanna needs to be 27x27 inches - not the standard bandanna size. A bandanna that size is big enough to provide good neck protection and I can bring the bandanna far enough forward to protect my eyes, ears, and cheeks. It looks a bit funky, but it does the job.

Quality and price comparable.

This hat does an excellent job of keeping you shaded. The material is breathable and dries quickly. If you ever need to look less like a fool then the flap easily folds into the brim of the hat.
