Rock, Gem, and Mineral Collecting Sites in Western North Carolina

Full of fantastic information

This book, like Streeter's "A Rockhuding Guide to North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains" provides useful information on a few sites and also offers useful info on some adjacent North Georgia sites. I wish the Jacquot and Streeter would work together to put out a more comprehensive guide with more geologic information and better maps and more recent information on property owners.

The info in this book is good. It gives directions and GPS info and other good info. BUT in this day and age there is really no excuse for just having black and white pictures in this kind of book. In black and white all the rocks look very similiar to me. If they would just add color pictures I would rate it 5 stars instead of just 4. I still recommend this book but not as your only one for this area. Get it to compliment others.

I own a store called Rocks and Things in Spruce Pine, N.C.. I sell many of these books to the people who come in looking for a place to go "hunt" rocks. I use it to show customers where to find the best places to really find stones in the ground, not at the commercial mines. Just bought the book for my kid and went to our first gems mine just 1 1/2 hr from the city.We had fun in the mine.

The book is out of date. Many of these sights are no longer accessible but book is still somewhat useful.

This was a book purchased as a Christmas present. I purchased it used, but the book looked new. My gift recipient was very pleased & that made me happy. Thanks!

Most of the info is up to date. We've been chased off from a few sites but that's to be expected when lands change hands. We love to get out there to enjoy nature, get some exercise and find a few "shiney rocks"!
