First Rate Set Great Price Point
Bachmann has done a great job with the Santa Fe F7A model. It runs at scale speeds from 15mph to fast about a scale 75 mph. The paint jobs is first class. Not any attached parts but for the value a great runner. Good weight pulls the three cars in the set with ease. The cars are very attractive and look more to scale for the same HO set. I really like the N scale road bed track fits firmly together and stays together during operating sessions. Models run fine on the track at all speeds and they don't fly off at full speed as well.

Great Train Set!
I purchased this set to replace my original Super Chief diesel locomotive. This newer version also has a working headlamp, but it is not as bright as my old version. It is a great locomotive and set of cars and is easy to setup and use with the included EZ track. The train runs great with no issues. I would purchase again, especially as a starter set in N gauge!

Awesome first train
Just got into this hobby, and can’t be more satisfied with this kit. First off N scale is perfect for my current living space as I don’t have enough room to get expansive, yet. Definitely looking forward to upgrading to HO eventually. But for now it fits perfectly on a dusty old nightstand I had just laying around. The train itself doesn’t feel cheap at all. Metal wheels instead of plastic, which from what I read online, will help avoid melting the axles during continuous operation. There are probably better kits out there, but for what you pay, you won’t be disappointed.

Mine worked great, until it didn't
This was a great starter set for me, but obviously something most people will want to expand to make their own layout. Cons: The track is hard to put together. Power goes out to the rails using what looks like a headphone jack and I worry about the durability. Plugging power into the rerailer is a 50/50 of which direction the DC power will flow, which affects which way "forward" is. It would be nice if it had markings showing which way is forward. N scale is small. Every part is tiny. It can be hard to get everything on the track, and because it is all a circle, it is difficult to get everything coupled together. It comes with various freight cars instead of passenger train cars. Pros: The power is easy to connect. If you want "forward" to go a particular direction and when you turn it on it goes backward, you can just switch the controller to backward, or flip the connector over on the track. The train looks good and the freight cars are good. I think everybody likes a caboose. The metal wheels make noise, but they will probably last a lot longer than plastic. The thing runs smooth at low speeds or high speeds. Half power seems to be about the correct speed to match real cruising speed when scaled down. I bought a six-pack of 5" straight to make an oval and it still fits easily on my bed on a 30"x40" foam panel. Once it is on the rails, it does not come off as long as the rails are connected correctly. So far I've bought one passenger car, a grain hopper car, and two coil cars, and it pulls them all around the track smoothly at about 1/3 power. I wouldn't let kids throw the parts around because the plastic parts might break if they hit something hard, but I think anybody would have fun watching it go around. Just don't leave the room while it is running. Tips: Make sure the rails are connected and aligned by running your finger over them. Make sure all the wheels are actually on the rails. Press the cars together so the couplers "snap" into place, or replace them with better couplers. * After a month of running it almost every day at various speeds, it's doing great, so I give it five stars. ----Update--- After exactly 2 months, it quit working completely. and was mailed (at my own expense) for warranty service. I was told there is a six-week turnaround and I am not expecting to get it back until early June. Now that I have experience with Kato engines (GEVO and Dash 9), unitrack, and controller, I would recommend them instead. ----Update 2---- Six weeks after sending it away, the engine has returned with a new chassis (not sure if it is the same shell or not), but it now has the black trucks instead of the original silver ones. It was a little rough starting out, but after a couple hours of running forward and backward, it has become as smooth as the original and just as capable of pulling.

Pure nostalgia
If you're of a certain age you may remember playing with Lionel or Tyco trains (you might even remember AFX slot cars); you might have even built a train table diorama. But chances are, over the years, the trains got boxed up, sold, passed along, donated, or worse. I bet you miss those trains; I do. This year I decided I would dip my toe back into model trains by purchasing one of the Bachman N gauge sets. The advantage of the small scale is that it's far easier to set up a layout compared to O or even HO. As a test, I decided to set up a simple circle layout under the Christmas tree, and I'm glad that I did. Basically, the track and train are of good quality; they're not as solid as the old Lionel and Tyco sets of old, but they're good enough. I think it's easy to set up, and you'll quickly be up to speed. The bottom line is that this is a fun and nostalgic train set.

Coupling of two Locos.
In 1990 I bought my first N Scale Train, a Bachmann Trains - Super Chief Ready To Run Electric Train Set. Still runs good. This new one is just been updated to new couplers a small circuit board under the hood, and a 24 inch circle of EZ track. Also updated Controller. The circuit board may be related to DCC. The Loco and cars have great detail, and look very nice I bought Two of these sets over the holidays to take advantage of the sales. I was hoping I could run the two Locomotives Back to Back. I expected when putting them on the track in different direction and would run away from each other but was glad to see they ran in the same direction . So I coupled them together and put as many cars on a 34 inch oval could handle, 22 plus the two Loco's The video I posted, the first 4 cars and the last caboose car came with the set. So about the first 1/3 of cars have knuckle couplers the the middle third of cars have the older Rapido couplers and the last third is back to the newer knuckle couplers, with a transition car to handle each change of the coupler type. At the end of Video a Derailment happened as the Engineer started slow the Train down. A NTSB investigation determined that as the slowing occurred two Cars in the middle of of the train become unconnected causing the Loco to run into the back of the uncoupled cars. No damage was done to the Front coupler of the Loco or the rear coupler of the Caboose. The uncoupling of the two middle cars were of different manufactures so Coupler incompatibility and excess speed probably was the cause as the couplers unloaded weight from the pull as the train slowed. The Engineer of the Locomotive was reprimanded for speeding and unsafe operation of a Train and assigned to administration duties pending further investigation. Conclusion. On a large layout running these two Locos in the Back to Back configuration one could pull very long Train. I don't have enough cars to test this out though, and my bigger layout is out of commission for renovation work.

Terrible track go with Kato track you’ll thank me. Unless you like fiddling with track. All day.
I hate this train set actually it’s not the train it’s the track. It sucks sorry there is no better way say. But t the track goes together horribly one rail will be higher than the other all over the track and then the trains just derail and fall off and they’re not smooth in the turnout. I could just complain on and on about Bachman track. I would suggest that you buy Cato track and then if you like the super chief, they make that model as well but you the Bachman super chief is actually pretty good. It runs smooth and it’s got some power. It’s the track that just makes this whole system garbage.

Buen producto
