i've tried 3 other docks to try and get my samsung to connect to my desktop Mac - this one works
I have three computer screens and recently have been trying to connect a 4th screen to my desktop Mac - a Samsung TV that is left from the previous owner of the house I recently moved into to. It was mounted on the wall, so I figure I might as well use it (it's near my mac). Since the damn Mac only has 2 lightning ports and the rest are USB, it's been quite a challenge to try and connect a third screen to my Mac (two HP monitors took the two lightning ports).I've tried THREE other extensions and docks and adapters of sort and nothing worked. THIS IS THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKED.DOWNLOAD THE DRIVE!!! It didn't work at first when I plug it in, it turns out you're supposed to download some drive (which was easy and straightforward). Come to think of it, the other 3 units that I tried and failed probably required some sort of drive as well, but the instructions wasn't clear. Okay to be honest I didnt even read the instructions. I just got frustrated and returned them (and did not write a bad review bc I really don't like doing that). I decided to write a positive review for this item, because I can finally use my 4th screen!!!!THIS WAS THE ONLY ITEM that made it SUPER clear, on the OUTSIDE of the packaging, that you have to download this drive. if the other 3 docks I bought had made it super clear I would've seen it. I know, my fault - but still. I think it's safe to assume most of us don't read those tiny instruction things that come with these adapters. besides, if I only have to plug my HP monitors without needing to download some drive, how would I know that it's different in this situation?I'm just thankful that this seller thought to include a very clear instruction on the front of the packaging. I have 4 screens and am now very happy.5 STARS.Janine.

Does what it is supposed to do
I bought this to be able to add more monitors to my MacBook Pro than my Mac was capable of outputting to at once. I installed the DisplayLink drivers directly off of the DisplayLink website with no issue. After that and connecting the adapter, connecting two additional monitors was seamless. I was impressed that OSX even knows what type of monitor is connected to the adapter (like HP or LG) rather than giving it some generic RayCue1 or something like that. I mainly use the extra monitors to display documents, slack (company chat), web pages, or email which it works great for. I did notice that whenever there is activity on the monitor, the program called "DisplayLinkManager" does go up in CPU. If I run full 1080p video on both monitors connected to the adapter, that program on my mid 2015 model MacBook jumped to 160%. It still worked just fine, but it's just something to think about for your use case. I wouldn't game with it for example. However, if you like me just want to add additional monitors for productivity apps, this is great.

Got it to work!
THE SHORT VERSION: I had issues with this adaptor recognizing two monitors attached to my laptop via USB 2.0, and they wouldn’t “extend” (only recognized one display, mirrored on both monitors). Switched the cable configurations around and eventually got it to recognize both monitors. Combination that worked: USB 2.0 => DVI & HDMI (HDMI adaptor to VGA, technically)... DVI & VGA combo didn’t work.THE LONG VERSION: I plugged this adaptor into my desktop PC via USB 3.0 to test it, installed the display link drivers, and it worked great. The combination was USB 3.0 => DVI & VGA. However, the point was to use this on my work laptop, so I tried to install it there.... different story! (see issue above) This laptop is an old PoS Lenovo that my employer makes their contractors use, so of course it doesn’t have USB 3.0. Since this cable configuration worked on my desktop PC, I assumed the lack of USB 3.0 to be my problem. I searched online, did some troubleshooting, reinstalled drivers, restarted the computer, tried two other USB 2.0 ports... nothing solved my problem. I was about ready to give up and send it back when I realized I missed a very trivial step in troubleshooting... switching the cables! I tried a different setup (now USB 2.0 => DVI & HDMI (HDMI adaptor to VGA) and it worked instantly. So if you have this same issue, try this out, maybe it’ll help you! This setup is running 1920x1080 on both monitors. As far as reviewing the actual product, this is one of the cheaper options that I found to serve the purpose of a simple dual screen setup. Fairly happy with it after getting it working! I definitely like that is doesn’t need to be plugged into a power source like some of the beefier docks out there. Could’ve come with a longer or replaceable USB cable; it’s basically hanging off my laptop because the USB cable isn’t long enough.

Good VGA adapter
This USB 3.0 to HDMI DVI VGA adapter is great. It's well packaged to deliver great video from your laptop to your TV. The project worked as described. It also comes with instructions on how to download the drivers required for proper operation. For general tasking it'll work like a charm for you.

Interesting Device - Probably Most Useful for Low Powered Laptops
At this time the price is just at $70. If you have a desktop computer with a discrete graphics card this is fairly moot as most of those already have multiple video outputs in the form of HDMI & Displayport and sometimes still DVI. If you want this as an adapter for a port you don't have a non-powered plug adapter would probably still be cheaper.Where i can see this being most valuable is possibly for some laptops that for some reason don't have a video output or it does but outputs poorly. This seems less likely now a days with both Intel & AMD increasingly including decent Integrated Graphics on their CPU but this could still be of very useful utility to some people.
