Okatsune Professional Snips, No.207 (Standard Version)

After a couple months of use for floral design work, five days a week, cutting soft stems, hard stems, and wood sticks, it's obvious the metal is of great quality. It is sharp and STAYS sharp despite such constant use. On the negative, when not kept closed with the leather strap (which has developed a small tear) the handles stay open at a wide gap, which could be difficult for someone to grab if they happen to have short fingers. Besides this, because of the somewhat slick metal, if your hands are not warm or you're not wearing gloves, your fingers will slip up the handles toward the shears. Not so much unsafe as it is cumbersome. Despite this, I should reiterate the quality of these shears. Fundamental in design, they are precise and sharp, as mentioned already. I'm definitely happy with my choice. Just keep the proper angles when sharpening and they will serve you well!

Amazing product

These are high quality snips. They are definitely sharp. Great for harvesting strawberries, flowers and things of that nature. They are snips and not pruners, so not the tool you want for cutting woody twigs. With proper care they should last a lifetime.

Absolutely love these! Told by an old Japanese expert pruner that these were the best & he's right - very sharp, very easy on the hands/joints. I've had mine for 3 yr, just recently replaced since they're getting a little dull, though I did not try to sharpen them. Japanese pruner suggested that it's easier to buy a new pair since sharpening by an amateur doesn't give quite as good an edge. I've given these as gifts to several of my gardening friends, one of whom has also purchased the bypass pruners made by this company, which she uses when pruning her vineyard. I wish this company made hedge shears.

Wow! I love high quality and precision tools. I'm surprised that this little pruning snips has such built quality. Cut like butter and with confidence. Feels nice in the hand. Only wish that it has a better locking mechanism then leather strap. It would be great if there is a stainless steel version.

I highly recommend these shears. They stay sharp. Made in Japan. I use them in the garden all of the time.

i purchased one snip two months ago and second one a few weeks later because I like the way it feels and cuts. It does a very good job but the first snip is now not cutting beans off the bush cleanly as I probably had challenged it way over its capacity with small hard branches. Another issue is that the carbon blades darken with use so had to purchase a rust eraser and camellia oil to remove the stains and keep it looking clean. Update 2 years later: I still love these snips and have since purchased several more. The first two still work but since I damaged them by accidentally cutting plant cages/wire, they have been relegated to outlying areas in the garden for quick trimming of weeds/vines/small branches. I gave up trying to keep them shiny as they work perfectly fine no matter how dark they get. I keep a couple in the house for floral arrangements, trips to the garden for herbs. My absolutely favorite tool!

Product looks nice and feels high quality, but chips have come out of both blade edges after only about 5 times using them. Metal seems to be brittle. Last thing I used them for was pruning small diameter rose stems (likely the thorns did the most damage). Amazon’s product support page directs you to a UK website which says customer is responsible for paying to ship to them for evaluation. “Heavy duty” Japanese steel these are not, better off buying trusty Felco products instead.

Had them for 2 gardening seasons now. Love these light weight clippers. i use them for flower harvest and light pruning. This is NOT meant for heavy duty/large branches. As in ok for very slightly woody young stems of less than 1/4 inch. I like them because they are much lighter than my heavy duty Felcos... which can be fatiguing on my arthritic hands. They are carbon steel, so you must be prepared to oil them and keep them dry -otherwise they will rust. I have a large bottle of pure camelia oil I use for my skin -I decanted some to use for the clippers. They protect without getting gummy.... cheaper than the stuff sold specifically for pruners and seems to work well. I also bought a sharpener from okatsune to keep the sharp edge. I find these (because it's all dark coloured) do get lost more than my light weight okatsune red and white handled 306 clippers. the tips sharp, so less comfy to carry in your pockets, recommend using a holster, etc. But good for precise pruning. The 306, a more light weight pruner, has a rounded tip -I find easier to pop those into my gardening pants without fear of stabbing myself.
