Rediscovering The 'dudes
It was back in '95 when I first heard of The Subdudes. A local radio station I listened use to have a weekly program where they would invite musical guests on to perform live music. This one week they had on The Subdudes. Never heard of them so wasn't sure what to expect. What I didn't expect was to be blown away by this group with just the first song they performed. I had a blank cassette tape, remember this was 1995 so cassette tapes still existed then, that I quickly popped in my stereo to record the rest of the show. I fell in love with the sound and style of their music. Two songs in particular I liked during their performance was "Message Man" and "Poverty".I played that tape a lot over the years until the tape itself wore out. I really liked their music. It is hard to describe their style of music because there isn't one category you can slot their music in to. Which is a major reason why I like them. The Subdudes sound is a blend of rock, folk, soul, blues and cajun music with a touch of gospel added as well. To me it makes for an enjoyable listening experience. Then for some unexplainable reason I lost touch with their music for a few years until recently when I rediscovered them on youtube. They have given me a couple of recommendations of videos to watch. One of them was the song "Message Man" and the other "Poverty" by, you guessed it, The Subdudes. This was taken as a sign by me to find my way back to their music. I went to Amazon and started looking for their albums when I came across "Annunciation" which includes their two songs I liked so much from their live performance. Another sign. "Annunciation" was the third studio album released by the 'dudes in 1994 so I had to download the album and have been enjoying it over and over again since. In a time when today's music is so boring and uncreative it is comforting to know there are some 'dudes out there who still know how to make music with heart and soul. I will be looking into getting more of their albums to add to my collection. In the meantime for anyone reading this who know nothing of The Subdudes I can recommend "Annunciation" as a very good starting point to get to know the music of this outstanding band. And if you do listen to it and find yourself blown away by the music don't feel alone. I know of at least one other person who was the first time she heard it.

Love this album
This one hit the nail right on the head for me. I enjoyed the melodies, the instrumentation, the NOLA sound that isn't typical. And don't forget the lyrics. This is, so far, my favorite of the Subdudes albums. Particularly good to me were "Why Can't I Forget About You", "I Know", "Miss Love","Sugar Pie", "Save Me", "It's So Hard".
