It's the kind of thing you bring out when you are desperate because it's really not comfortable to use nor does it conform well to the body. So when I saw this I was delighted to find that heating pads have reached the 21st century and are user friendly. This thing is plush enough to feel wonderful right against the skin and thin enough to not be noticeable when you have it under you or whatever. Put it on my father's chair as soon as it arrived. He was having a "bad back day" and within about 1/2hr he was saying his back was feeling better. It's very simple to use too. My father has "mild cognitive decline" so if something is confusing or difficult to use he gets frustrated easily. He picked up the control device and immediately set it where he wanted for both heat (6 settings) and timer. That's another great thing about this thing. It has a timer that turns it off at a pre-set time (30, 60, 90, or 120 min) so if you fall asleep or put it down and walk away it eventually turns off. With a father who's memory is a little off, this is a great feature for him! It comes with an elastic band to hold it in place but we just put it on the chair for his use. But that's a nice thing if you wanted to use it on a leg or arm. And one other thing. Someone gave a really low rating because of the size. I measured it and yes, it's not *exactly* 12x24 but mine is damn close. Certainly not enough off to merit a 2 star reduction. All in all Dad LOVES it and the other heating pad has been relegated to the trash :) Review: 3rd Xs a charm ! Warms up fast; gets very warm on mid setting; multiple time & heat settings - I've tried 3 brands of electric heating pads in the last month. I ordered 2 of these and when I 1st opened one, immediately put it back in the box because I could feel the wires. However, the other I had ordered made so much noise from the plastic inside, I decided to try this one & am very glad I did. The wires actually don't bother me on my neck, back or ribs. It heats up quickly & gets warm enough on the mid setting of 3 & I usually have to turn down to 2. Pros: Heats quickly gives FAR better penetrating heat than the two other electric pads I tried soft dual sided multiple heat settings; 1-6 multiple time settings; 30 minutes to 2 hours (see cons) control always defaults to 60 min) just click timer to turn back on, rather than turning off & on switch Cons * one of two I have used for a few weeks: the handle gets warm ~ even when 'off' so I am going to need to return & replace to be safe * this is not XL; it is at most 24x12" really wish the cord could was a bit longer the dial is hard to see at night; I have to turn my phone light on to change settings the white tab on the pad takes a bit of room on the cozy pad tho you get over it the control is rather large the control defaults to 60 minutes so EVERY time you have to set to 120 minutes if this is what you want (I do) not washable

Not your mother's heating pad
This heating pad is terrific! It heats quickly, and has 6 settings so one is bound to cure your aches. I also really appreciate having timer settings in case I leave it on accidentally...it shuts itself off. As for comfort, this is not your mother's old heating pad! It's very soft, plush, and twice as big! There's no plastic feel to it at all and you can use it for moist or dry heat. Plus, they added a handy strap so I can wrap it around my lower back and still move normally without losing heat. I love it!

Amazing the difference in heating pads now compared to 10 years ago!!
My wife and I have been using an old flat, wool-covered plastic heating pad for the last few weeks and I finally got fed up with it and purchased this one...I wish I would have bought one sooner. The pad is very soft and not only has multiple heat settings (instead of High & Low) but it also has a timer so if you fall asleep on the couch with it on, you won't wake up sweating (my problem). I am going to buy a few more of these during Christmas time to hand out as gifts!!

Not easy to use
Pad turns off if the cord is not in the perfect position. Very frustrating.

I’ll be very blunt
I bought it 2 weeks before Christmas, received it 2 days later and it started giving me issues, like stopped working, on the 2nd day of use. I didn’t return it because it isn’t/wasn’t worth all the hassle. Now, I have to mess around with it, sometimes up to 30 to 40 minutes to get it to turn on after it being off for days before; so no, the reason for this is not “overheating.” Now it’s March and I’ve gotten to the point where I unplug it from the heating pad, then try to start it up (..before that, I would set it to the next to top level, it would work, then not on other tries.) There have been times it won’t turn on at all, so I have to go without. It was a waste of money, honestly. Pros: It’s soft . Pretty color (I choose blue) Once it works, it does get hot (but sometimes, not) Cons: ~ cheaply made - as I’ve said in my review. ~ Fabric folds up so easily, I’ve had to repeatedly fix it to lay and keep it flat. Even after that, if you touch it, it folds over and twists very easily. It’s annoying. ~ It’s not really an XL. Maybe in today’s definition, but honestly, it’s the size of two 8x11 papers, with a little extra.

Terrific extra large heat pad with simple controls and exceptional performance.
This was a great purchase. Upon receipt, the packaging was very thoughtfully designed and the product presentation was very clean and organized. It has been several years since I needed a heating pad and this one being extra large makes all the difference in hitting multiple need points. The heat selector is very clear, easy to manage and responsive. There are several levels of heat to choose from which makes it nice to increase and decrease through a treatment session. There are several heat pads to choose from; however, I would strongly suggest this one based on performance and price.

Works very well
Great product but doesn't hold its shape well. It scrunches up easily. Great choice of settings and it is very soft.
