Really Nice "Warm" Light Feature
I have numerous emergency lanterns and flashlights. Modern battery lights seem to almost always come with the "Daylight" cool white LED light. That's okay, and certainly helps for finding things, navigating dark places, or lighting up a space. But when there's a long power-outage, there comes a point when all you want is a regular household lamp. Just to see things, but not to be In-Your-Face bright. I saw this "warm light" feature, and decided to give it a try. This lantern is bright! When we used its first setting and turned it on in pitch darkness, it easily provided enough light to see the entire stove for cooking. It also has a diffusion lens, so it was a bright but not blinding. We compared it to one of those "pull up slide to turn on" lamps, and this was a whole lot brighter! Then we pushed the button again, and got the "low" setting. Easily enough light to walk around, find a bathroom and so forth. But the major feature -- the warm light we bought this for -- turned out to be awesome! We have a small end-table lamp that uses a 60-watt LED, "warm" bulb. It's our every-day use lamp for the living room. This little lantern was pretty much exactly the same thing! It uses 3 D-cell batteries, which you have to provide, so it will run for quite a long time. We're looking at re-chargeable D cells, which would likely help, but we're only using this for hurricane power outages. For extended camping needs, it's fairly heavy with the big batteries, so not easy to back-pack.If carrying weight isn't a big issue, you'll definitely love the warm lamp feature! There's no indicator LED like on the Rayovac lamps, so there's no easy way to find this lantern in the dark. Then again, so what? We have small penlight flashlights and puck lights for immediate light when the power goes off. Then we leave this lantern in a specific place, in order to quickly find it when needed.UPDATE (July 2020): I've kept this lantern on a shelf in the living room, and periodically turn it on to make sure the batteries are okay. Or, I use it to take out the garbage. Last time I pushed the switch it didn't work. I replaced the batteries, but no luck. I contacted the seller, and they immediately sent me a replacement! I'd only expected to hear some additional trouble-shooting tips, but this was no-questions replacement! Fantastic!I looked very closely at the new one in comparison with the broken one. When I removed the batteries from the broken one, the spring clip below one of the batteries broke. It apparently had cracked or stressed at some point. The only thing I can think is that when putting in batteries, I must have tilted the lid slightly before pushing down and rotating it closed.I checked on the broken one, and yes, it's possible to do. It takes a fair amount of pressure to press the lid down when there are batteries in place. If the lid it at an angle, it can still be pushed down and twisted, but I suspect it generated the force to damage the spring clip. Don't know for sure, but be careful when replacing or installing batteries. Still a fantastic light, and now 5-star rating for customer service as well!

Nice light, outstanding customer support!
I bought 4 of these for use during hurricane season (I live in Florida). I found the light itself to be solid, good quality, well sealed against water, etc. Light worked as advertised -- there's a bright, dim, and "soft" light modes and the lamps will work just great for my purposes. I like that they use D-cell batteries -- longer life, plus I can swap out batteries easily if needed. I loaded them up with rechargeable NiMH batteries and put them on the shelf.A few weeks later, while prepping for an approaching storm, I pulled out the batteries to top off the charge, and a small piece of metal dropped out of one of the lights. It was the spring contact for one of the batteries. I guess it had been bent too far, or perhaps there was a defect in the metal. In any event, I contacted GearLight and told them what had happened. Here's the great part -- they immediately apologized for my inconvenience and shipped a replacement lamp. I am duly impressed! I now have 4 working lamps and would not hesitate to recommend these lamps and this company.

Good product but ruggedness still a question mark
I bought one of these lanterns in April 2020. I was impressed by the amount of light that the small and lightweight lantern produced. I purchased a second unit planning to be ready for hurricane season. I recently checked both lanterns and found that one of them would not work despite only having been put on the shelf and not having seen little service since I first installed the batteries. Upon opening, one of the battery contact prongs fell out of the lantern body...the likely culprit. Considering the low cost and amount of light produced, I ordered a replacement with the assumption this problem was a fluke. The jury is still out therefore regarding the reliability.Followup: The vendor contacted me about my problem. They sent me 2 lanterns and a set of batteries as replacements. Great customer service! I have updated my review accordingly

Great unit for light outages, but u can get brighter
Very lite unit, weights almost nothing with batteries installed.decent light brightness at high settings but i have seen brighter laterns for example habor freight luminar latern 1250 lumens, anyways. This unit is still great for a small room or bathroom or kitchen.my two biggest issues was i received the package in its original package NO box to protect its original packaging for all 3 units, crazy. and no batteries included, not even a cheap brand tester battery.i still recommend you guys to buy cause it worked as advertised when i installed my batteries

Excellent emergency or camping lantern.
The main purpose of this purchase was as an emergency lantern for our family. I like the fact that it uses D batteries for long lighting time. Worked well directly out of the box, put the three D batteries in, and pushed the on button. First push is full on, second push is still bright but lower intensity and the third push provides a more yellow light which our kids like. There is a hanging hook on the bottom, which worked well to hang it from the breakfast overhead light. With the lights off in the house it produced a lot of light. Like the fact also that the plastic is milky white, so the LEDs do not blind you as one of our other lanterns do. Nice handle on top that will work well for camping also. This is not a large lantern, but produces more than enough light as can be seen in the pictures attached. The smaller size is good for storage. I would recommend this lantern.

Finally an outstanding LED lantern that lasts for a long time.
This is truly an outstanding LED lantern. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box and saw the quality. I was even more surprised when I saw how well it worked. The lantern uses 3 D batteries, which is why I would I believe it would last for the claimed 72 hours. The Lantern has three modes, bright white, dimmed white and a soft white light that is easy on the eyes at night. The price and quality of the lantern truly mean a great value. This lantern would work great when power goes out as well. Nice to have a couple of them around the house if the power goes out.
