My sink drains , after removing the top cover of the drain there is still a built in metal that has holes not removable. Will it hurt that?

I don't think so. It didn't hurt the metal ring that is around the sink drain when I used it so I think you're safe. It's a great product.

Are both of these just as effective at strong clogs?

Before you consider dumping sodium hydroxide down your sink, get a big bucket, unscrew the trap under your sink, and clean it out manually. And never, ever dump grease down your sink because it will set up and clog it up all over again..

can I use it for garbeage disposals?

i never had a garbage disposal to try it on? i used it in the bathroom to dissolve hair clogging the drain and it worked.
