IT SIMPLY ISN'T NECESSARY TO PAY THIS MUCH FOR ORGANIC - ALL EPSOME SALTS ARE ORGANIC!
The seller will tell you that this is superior grade and organic, implying that other forms are not organic. His stuff is, in fact, certified as organic by OMRI, and that's what you're paying for. If you have reason to prove OMRI organic in your crop, then I suppose this will prove that. Otherwise, it's a total waste of money. There is simply no way to source Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) that's not organic!! The seller also tells you that this is of higher purity than that sold in drug stores! THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A MINUTE. The stuff in the drug stores is sold for MEDICAL purposes & MUST be of excellent purity. I've used Epsom salts from drug stores as fertilizer for over 40 years with excellent results and not a single issue with impurities. Ever since cannabis because approved for medical use and people have been growing it, fertilizer makers have sprung up like weeds who claim that they have magic bullet for Cannabis. they're playing on the fact that these folks have never grown, or farmed, anything in their lives and lack knowledge of soil chemistry, plant chemistry & cultural practices, leaving them ripe for hype and BS. As a 71 year old retired farmer with over 40 years in agriculture (and over 20 years growing Cannabis), I know the real cost of fertilizers, both organic and chemical based, and these 'targeted' Cannabis products are an extreme rip off. For example, I could pay $20.00 for a quart of a hydroponic nutrient, or, I can pay about $7 to $10 for a box of Miracle Grow, add a bit of Epsom salts to that, and grow my crop using less than half the box, where it would take me 2 of the $20.00 bottles to do the same thing. Don't believe me about the Epsom Salts? Well, this was copied and pasted from the web site gardeners:BS! This product is being sold using HYPE and BS! ALL Epson Salts are organic!! I've used the drug store variety for years with excellent results. Simply use hot water in a cup to dissolve it first will speed things up. It will dissolve in cold water, but it takes longer. Copied and pasted from gardenerd.com:A gardener wrote in recently asking if Epsom Salts are organic.I think we should break this question down into two questions:1) Are Epsom Salts organic?2) Are Epsom Salts safe to use in organic gardening? The short answer to both questions is yes, but for the sake of clarity, I’ll explain a little further.Microsoft Encarta defines Epsom Salts as the following:“Epsom Salts, common name for colorless or white crystalline salt (magnesium sulfate hepta-hydrate, MgSO4·7H2O) found in the minerals kieserite and epsomite and in mineral waters. Epsom salt was first prepared at Epsom, England. The salt has a bitter taste. It has been used in medicine as a cathartic, in hypertonic baths to reduce swelling, and in dyeing as a color fixative.”The word “Organic” is used most commonly these days to define whether something can be used safely in organic gardening, or rather, is approved for use in Certified Organic farming by the OMRI (the Organic Materials Research Institute), but scientifically speaking, the word “organic” means “derived from a living organism” (I’m getting a little Star Treky here).Since Epsom Salts are “of the earth”, meaning they are a harvested product found in well water, they is considered organic, and subsequently are considered safe for organic gardening. However, just for the record, we must remember that we are at the top of the food chain, and we have no way of controlling all of the resources we use in our gardens. For example:There is really no such thing as certified organic fish, since fish (and fish meal or emulsion) comes from the ocean and who knows what pollutants and chemicals reside in the ocean. Salt also comes from the ocean, most of it anyway, and is susceptible to all the same elements. Manure is organic, but we have no way of knowing what those horses or cows or chickens ate to help produce that manure. I say this not to scare you, but to say that we basically have to accept that this is part of being at the top. We do the best we can.Epsom Salts help with the uptake of magnesium, but it is a good idea to test your soil for mineral deficiencies before using Epsom Salts as a soil amendment. However, if you’ve noticed blossom end rot on your tomatoes, or under-performing roses, you can confidently throw a handful in their direction.
