Batman Eternal 2

Hands down one of the best New 52 titles you can read right now.
This has to be my favorite title so far from the New 52, and that's not easy with titles like Batman also written by Snyder, Batman and Robin, or Justice League. Granted I haven't read everything in the New 52 but this is certainly my favorite and what I consider the best so far. This series is interesting because it's not simply written by one writer, or penciled by one artist, it's is a collaborative efforts from some of the best writers and some of the best artists, and it really shows in this series. Great mystery. Great action. Great drama. Great art. Great writing. Great villain. Great supporting characters. Great side plots. All blending so perfectly in this three part epic. If you have already been following this series, then you know essentially where the story is and where it's going. It's a great continuation from the first volume and has me ready for next. It feels a lot more faster paced than the first one, probably less wordy, but that might just be me. Things certainly get into gear and it's been one of the most cinematic experiences you can get from reading a comic. It feels fast paced but deliberate and organic. It feels like a movie from start to finish, so much so I want to see this adapted, because it feels so much like a movie already. You can very easily imagine a movie like this. This is a very, very well rounded book, and I recommend this to anyone who's looking for good batman story to read. This series gives you the best of batman, you can get. A little bit of everything, but blended in such an organic way you can't help but to feel satisfied by every story. You get everything you could want from a batman comic. The writing is well thought out, and compelling, the art is fluctuates, where you can tell different artist step in for different issues but it fits with each of the issues and all still feels like it's in the same story, because it keeps the same tone and some of the art and imagery, and down right masterful. Great three part series. Recommended to new people trying to get into batman, and to people who are looking for a great batman story to read. This three part epic has certainly been a favorite of mine. I'm sure many of you will appreciate this too.

Hush Now
The Second volume of Batman Eternal is here, collecting issues 22-34. The plot crafted by some of Batman's biggest writers continues, with Scott Synder laying out the broad story, and writers like James Tynion IV, Tim Seeley, Kyle Higgins, Ray Fawkes, and others handling specific issues. The weekly story is all about juggling multiple stories and trying to weave them together with mixed results. The story involves the New 52 debut of Hush, and follows a similar story to his original debut back in 2003, with most of his character and backstory intact, but still not much detail on his shallow motives. Here he continues to wage a shadow war against Batman, and more pieces join the conspiracy. While this is going on, you have Batgirl still investigating her fathers innocence, Arkham Asylum undergoing a bizarre ghost ritual, Harper Row trying to become a crime fighter, Spoiler trying to stop her father, and many other stories thrown in. The result is an interesting and uneven storyline, with simply too many cooks. The Arkham story falls flat, and characters get picked up and dropped infrequently. The Conspiracy to destroy Batman is still the underlying mystery, and Hush provides a worthy threat. Spoilers fight against her father is great as well. Don't suspect the story to end though, as the ball is dropped at the end of the story, setting up the third and final volume. The art of the book is a wide variety. Everyone from all-star Jason Fabok, to R.M. Guerra of "Scalped" fame drawing some issues. The art varies greatly, with character's appearances changing drastically from issue to issue, which can cause confusion. Overall the art is pretty good, but I think volume one has the edge with it's lineup of artists. Also, there are no extras like sketches and notes, just two three page stories that are basically adds for other comics that aren't important.Overall, the middle act of Batman Eternal is a fun and imperfect story that tries to take on a little bit too much. It still very entertaining, and at times the right artist can make it all that much better. Its greatly shorter than the last volume, but that only means that volume three will be that much bigger. Hopefully the conclusion can add more suspense and action to a slower middle chapter.

One step back
A little bit of a drop in quality from vol 1. Seemed like a lot of filler though I'm interested in vol 3 to see how it ends.

Great Batman Story But Varying Art
The story is mesmerizing, but the varying art is distracting. There is a particular artist whose art is best, and you can tell that DC knew because they save the artist's art for the important scenes. However, the art between these key comic issues varies from mediocre to outright disgusting.Buy only if you are a Batman fan and are willing to tolerate the shifting visuals.

Good story, bad price.
Batman Eternal continues to entertain me, but I'm very disappointed by the MSRP: this second volume (issues 22 to 34) is almost half of volume 1 and the stated 448 pages length is completely wrong, it's more likely 300 or less, but still comes with the same cover price. Even with Amazon's very good discount prices I paid it just as much as vol.1, which kinda bugs me. I think DC is to blame for some kind of misprint on their cover.

A great second volume.
An excellent second volume which continues to increase the suspense of the first. The only negative thing I can say is that not all of the artwork is brilliant, but given that it is drawn by a variety of artists that's not entirely unexpected. Both eternal vol.1 and vol.2 have been great and I'm looking forward to vol.3, I'd recommend this to any fan of either Batman or comic books in general.
