Transformers Prime Robots In Disguise - Autobot Optimus Prime Figure

I've been looking for an optimus prime figure that looks like optimus prime (to me) and transforms into a (regular) truck. This is a voyager class transformer so it's a little taller and wider than the 'typical' transformer (bigger box) and a little more expensive. Some of the pictures on amazon have a 'stylized' version, which I guess you could get if you painted/photoshopped the toy, but it's still an impressive toy. He comes with a sword and 'light up gun', which requires you to push it to extend & light it up. The figure itself feels robust and stands up quite easily. He's pretty easy to pose. I'm happy with the transformation - it's complex enough that it's not immediately obvious, but my wife, who doesn't play with transformers, was able to do it on her own after a few tips. I like the truck looks like a truck and doesn't look like a space car or have spikes on it like some of the current models. When in truck mode, the sword and gun can fit into the 'back', but it feels more like a holder than 'vehicle weapon' like some of the other toys so this may detract for some folks.

It’s so much better than you would expect from a toy that is over a decade old…Transformers Prime was and is one of the best transformers cartoons ever and this figure will be a nice addition to your collection.

As a parent who was a fan of the original G1 toy line I am having a lot of fun getting the Prime line of toys for my kids. From what I understand the FE for Prime was pretty good, but for my kids ranging from 4-7 years old they are having a blast watching the show and playing with these second edition toy likenesses. As for this version of Optimus I have to say that its solid in both modes. My 4 year old is having a blast playing with the spring loaded blaster rifle. Looking at the rifle, I can see some minor inspiration was drawn from G1 Optimus's rifle. Pose ability and cool factor for Optimus are high in the kids eyes and mine as well. The second gen prime toys may not be up to snuff for collectors and purists, but for kids who want to spend an afternoon, going "vroom", "whoosh", and "zap" they are perfect in terms of playability and price point.

So, I consider myself handy. I build stuff, refinish stuff, repair stuff. But this d@mn thing is ridiculous. This is not the Transfromer of our youth with 8-10 moves and your done. Nooooo, Sir. This thing takes about 27-30 moves and is not at all intuitive. In fact the instructions page is a fold-out and is about 3 feet by three feet wide. I am not joking. So always expect you kid to ask you to "transform" this thing and always expect to look like an idiot while doing it. If that's your idea of a good time, have at it.

I bought this for my 6-year-old grandson. Together, we cannot get it to change into the truck. The little head is in the way or ..? We have tried it twice for 2 15-minute periods and can't quite get it. Disappointed.

Our great grandson is very "into": these and once he opened it, he was so excited, he gave a big yell and said "It's Optimus". His expression was priceless!!!!

My 4 year old grandson wanted this toy for his birthday. Grandma did not disappoint! His mom said it was a great hit and seemed well built.
