We're Going to the Doctor: Preparing For A Check-Up (Campbell Big Steps)

Good intro to routine doctor visits
Started looking at this book with my son after he freaked out at the 15-month check-up appointment. He still freaked during the 18-month appointment, but differently. He also seemed to use the book to process what happened during the last appointment because he wanted to read it more than once a day for a handful of days after. I would recommend it, along with a toy doctor kit so your little one can actually touch some of the objects depicted (stethoscope, etc.). Also, I never actually read the “story” printed in the book. Instead, I use the pictures to talk about what is happening on each page.

Simple book that covers some aspects others don't
This is probably the only doctor visit book I found that called out needing to get undressed, including socks. I wish I had this book before the 24month visit. Because this is the one thing that freaked her out during her visit - that she had to take off her socks. She was fine with everything else during her visit (even her flu shot)! So I’m glad this book calls out getting undressed. The book doesn’t have a lot of information about why certain things are happening or info about the tools or why you need a shot, etc. But I still appreciated the various scenes - especially the pharmacy one.

The Happy Doc Is In
The flaps are thin so you must monitor your toddler while reading through the book or the flaps get torn. The suggestions on each page for doctor visits is a great touch.

Love it
High quality book. Lots of fun flaps. 2.5 year old granddaughter loves it. And it’s helping her with her doctor anxiety.

1 year old loves it
My 1 year old hates doctor visits and cries and screams the whole time, so I got her this book. She loves it! She wants me to read it 10 times a day to her.

Storyline is not good
I didn't like that the child in the book goes to the doctor and not only has to strip off but is also there for a jab. I thought these books were supposed to make particular experiences familiar - having my child think that everytime he goes to the doctor he's getting a jab is not going to make my life easier. Why couldn't the story have had the doctor check the child's ears and throat - things that wriggling little children don't like to sit still for.I donated this book rather than give it to my child.

Great book to prepare for a doctors visit
We have several of the books in this range and used this one specifically to help prepare our 3 year old for his vaccinations. It was very successful, he loves books with flaps and was able to associate things in his visit with things in the book.

Useful
So good to go through the process together so she remembers when we go to the doctor. The flaps also help keep focus.
