. Review: The Best Soul From The Decade Of Excess - I looked for a title to connect with days of my childhood ah the feeling of FM radio minus the static back in the late 80's plus delve into my new found genre of Soul/Funk R&B so on instinct I picked this up and boy was I glad I'd plummed for a disc that made my world go round. For a start I am so godamned picky about the sound a little less report on the volume and/or noise distortion can set me off pretty bad and the sounds here carry so much fidelity that you could hit program play any time of day even songs that aren't my bag. Then There's a broad range of work here, from jazz crossovers like Stanley Jordan with "Heaven Sent You" and Grover Washington with "Summer Nights" to straight pop crossovers like Deniece Williams with "Let's Hear It for the Boy" and the classic and true hit "Easy Lover" by Philip Bailey and Phil Collins. Other actual chart-toppers here include "Juicy Fruit" by Mtume, Herbie Hancock with the seismic hit "Rockit," and one-hit wonder Johnny Kemp with "Just Got Paid." Luther Vandross, Teena Marie, Bill Withers, Babyface, and Regina Belle are a few of the others whose tracks pepper this 40-song collection. A wide array of bonafied titles, fast delivery and second-to-none voice reproduction-hell it even has the titles I revered from my fav year 89 ie Babyface's "It's No Crime"-and read my lips-Babyface never sounded close to what I just heard today! Review: cd - enjoyed the music

LOVE IT.
The SONGS took me all the way back to the 80’s and all the great times and memories I remembered. Thank you for having a great CD.

Somewhat enjoyable, with some issues
This is a pretty good value for 40 tracks, with all except three being in full-length album version form so it's hard to find faults but of course I can. The mastering is loud, with dynamic range as low as 7 but up to 11, with an average rating of 9. Not terrible but might be a little fatiguing in headphones. Sounds pretty good when listening through room speakers though. Some tracks sound a bit "flat" and dull from the lack of dynamics or from being volume-chopped from even louder masters. There's also a mastering glitch where a bit of the intro to "Lovergirl" is cut off. As long as you're not an audiophile, this is a great value for some great music.

not at all what I would call funk music. More jazzy and electronic than anything
