Nice little gift as an interesting decorative piece
I’ve bought this as a gift but in all honesty I’m half tempted to keep it for myself. What’s included? You get the storm glass weather station itself and little wooden stand (note that mine didn’t have a logo on the stand as indicated in the photo on amazon - which is good as it would have detracted from the look of the item as a decorative piece) with a little instruction manual. These all come in a cardboard box with an interesting extract from Jules Verne - 20,000 Leagues printed on the top (which is a nice touch).... it’s well packaged and the glass is protected with styrofoam inside the boxHow does it work? You leave the weather station out of direct sunlight and extreme temperatures and the liquid inside the storm glass has crystals that change consistency and behaviour supposedly in line with the weather.Does it work? To be honest I don’t know as you have to keep it for 2 weeks to acclimatise so it’s not something you can test straight away. If it does work I don’t think anyone would ever make “do I take an umbrella” decision based purely on the storm glass BUT it’s a cool looking decorative piece with an interesting history (Royal Navy/Darwin) that I’m sure kids and house guests would be interested in.Do I recommend it? Yes I think it’s a cool decorative piece that I can see house guests being intrigued by.I would like the wooded stand to be a little less modern looking and I’m wondering whether it could be stained to change the look of the stand. This is just personal preference as I can see people liking the modern look/feel of the wooden stand.

An excellent & beautiful combination of history, science and literature
Bought 2 as Christmas gifts, both recipients are very happy. Information / history leaflet interesting & useful! plus excellent presentation to have the relevant quote from Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea on the box. Took a few days to adjust/ see any changes but then suddenly noticed changes in the crystals & pretty accurate re the weather! My teenage son has his in bedroom; my friend has his in his office where apparently it’s causing a lot of fascinated interest & conversation. I looked at several storm glasses and read reviews before choosing this one and am very pleased with purchase. Not only is it beautifully presented - it looks good on your shelf or desk etc as an unusual ornament - and it’s interesting! Both were packaged securely ( ordered separately) so no risk of breakage/damage. Happy to recommend.

Very cool.
Very nicely presented with the wooden stand. I currently have it on my desk and people are constantly asking what it and they're always intrigued when I explain its purpose. It does seem to be working so far with it constantly predicting clouds which it has been. All in I'm very pleased with this and would recommend it for a gift to anyone.

Just a novelty.not accurate
A lot of info when you purchase about how they predict storms etc. Kept mine in the window. We've had wind, snow heavy rain and freezing conditions. No change in the storm glass ,so it's just a novelty

Beautiful
I bought this for my boyfriend for Christmas because of how beautiful it is and also the history with it. I loved it so much family got me and my sister one too. It's a beautiful ornament although I wouldn't trust how accurate it is. The leaflet inside is also very handy. I reccomend this for people of all types.

It's a con, do not waste your money
I would give 0 stars if I could! Do not waste your money. I bought 2 of these as Christmas presents and they have not changed once, and given that the weather has been warm, wet, cold, icy, snowy and torrential rain during this time and neither of them have changed one iota I would say I have been conned!
