Dahle Vantage 10671 Premium Self-Healing Cutting Mat, 12"x18", 1/2" Grid, 5 Layers for Max Healing, Perfect for Crafts & Sewing, Black

I bought a 9" x 12" black, and also a blue, cutting mat. The price was too good to just get one. They're thick (the black one 1/8th inch, the blue one is a little less), heavy, and stiff -- all good for precision cutting. They can't be rolled up without possibly ruining them. To cut clear through a mat you'd probably need to use hard pressure with a box cutter (cutting mats aren't made for box cutters, so use one at your own risk). One side is printed with a measured grid, the other side is blank. The black mat has white printing that's easy to see and the blue mat has light grey printing that's much less contrasty, could be a problem in low light. Both sides of the mat are usable. The mat itself is 9" x 12", but the printed grid is 8" x 11" (there's a 1/2" border around the edge). The surface is slightly textured so it grips paper when you put any pressure on the paper. Paper didn't slide around at all for me while test cutting. I tried it with glossy paper, regular paper and out of curiosity, a piece of cooking parchment paper. The parchment paper didn't grip as well as the other two, but it hung on far far better than I expected it to. I do notice the blue mat is a bit smoother than the black one, so if you want more grip, get the black one. I *can* see some of the cut marks where I cut deeper, but I can't feel them, so the mat is doing its job. Previous cuts won't interfere with future ones. I have a 2' x 3' cutting mat already for rotary cutting, but it's far too big to get out and use every time I want to use my x-acto knife. I had been using the backs of legal pads to cut small things on, but cardboard tends to grab the blade and gets ruined pretty quickly. The 9" x 12" mats are great and getting one was long overdue. I can store them almost anywhere and I only have to move my keyboard out of the way to make room for one. I definitely recommend these.

I purchased this self healing mat for the purpose of leather-working after countless hours of researching all of the tools and products I would need to start creating leather ART! This particular mat was highly recommended on a website on which they listed all of the basic tools needed for making leather work. After seeing the reviews, I was kind of torn between this mat, and another highly reviewed brands' mat. I'm happy I went with this one. As petty as this may seem, I loved the fact that it was black as opposed to most of the other ones being green. Put that on top of the many highly acclaimed reviews, and recommendation from another source, the choice was clear. I've been using this mat for a few months now, and trust me, it's taken a beating. I've sliced and sliced on this thing with anything from a basic utility knife, to a rotary cutter, and mostly xacto knives every day since getting it, and it's really held up! I don't see myself having to replace this mat any time soon. In fact, I'll be purchasing another, as my wife and I are in the beginning stages of having our own leather company. We're not doing this as hobbyists. Leather-working is what we want to DO as a living. We're moving from Oakland, CA to the Sacramento area to gain more space, as the Bay Area of California is ridiculously expensive, and we're currently working out of a studio. Our goal, and only thing we want is to have a modest house that has a garage so we can use it as a work space. We plan on having at least 2 large working tables in our new work-space, so getting at least another one of these is definitely going to be required. Dahle really holds up to what they advertise this mat is. It's extremely well made, it's definitely self healing, and I won't be buying any other brands' mats. This is an incredible item offered at a more than fair price, so it really is a win-win. I'd highly recommend this product to anyone that needs a mat like this for their work. Especially leather workers!!

Great hobby mat, and I love the blue color. 18x24 is a good size, it's a bit flexible too. Great to keep your surface protected!

​I had a persistent bubbling issue with my 36x48 Vantage mat that arrived rolled. After months of trying to flatten it myself, I reached out to Dahle support. Even though I was past the standard warranty, they were professional, responsive, and are sending a replacement. It’s a relief to know that a premium brand actually treats its customers like pros. Highly recommend! Also, this will be my 3rd Dahle Vantage mat, i am a fan for life!

This is without question the best cutting mat I have ever used. I mostly specialize in leatherwork, but also sewing and other crafts. I build a massive butcher block work bench, and I wanted a thick self-healing mat that was transparent enough to show the grain of the bench. This fit the bill PERFECTLY. It's nice and thick, never have to worry about cutting through, even with the extremely sharp blades I use. HOWEVER.. there is one catch. The inch marks on the left edge and bottom edge are the only marked sides, as the mat offers metric scales if you were to rotate 180-degrees. This is a nice feature, but ultimately makes the mat much less functional for either scale, as the metric scale is also not featured on the opposite edges, accordingly. If the inch lines were bolder, and the half-inch lines were thinner (or a different color/shade), this would not be as big of an issue.. but when I have an entire side of leather laid out, and am trying to square up a cut, I have to count the half-mark lines from one edge to ensure my straight-edge is lined up. If the inch markers were along the top and right sides, this would without be a 6-star rating! The mat is phenomenally well-made, but this little omission of a continuous scale along all edges knocks off a star, instead. That being said, the mat was shipped flat and I have had no issues with warping even in my garage in the warm Virginia summers. I stuck the top corners down using carpet corners, and it hasn't budged since. In conclusion - you will not be disappointed with this mat! It is thick, reliable, and durable. Just keep in mind that the scale is not mirrored on the opposite side, so you may find that to make some projects more difficult. I am planning to maybe write the missing markers in sharpie on the bottom of the mat, so I can maximize the potential. Hopefully they remedy this in the future, because this mat is otherworldly apart from that!

I've been cutting on this cutting board for about a month now and it is performing exactly as I thought it would, cuts in the surface are self-healing. Large size lets me cover my entire work surface which comes in handy for large objects. Objects sit evenly on this large surface as well. Worth the extra price for the larger size.

I knew Dahle was good quality. But I had no idea what to expect with the cutting mat. I got the blue, because I didn't think the other colors were worth the price increase. I'm cheap. First- It was packed flat in a large box. It was loose in the box, but also wrapped in a plastic sleeve. Not very well done. I know it's a large product but it's not rocket science to pack a large flat object tightly without a lot of plastic or waste. That said- there was only one minor scuff on the grid. No other complaints. I'm not sure if that happened during shipping or just a flaw in production. This cutting mat has a grid on one side and plain on the other. It's VERY heavy duty and sturdy. I think even if it had come rolled- it would take long to let it's own weight press it out. Anyhow- I would HIGHLY recommend this product. It will put any Fiskars mat to shame! I've had a Fiskars mat for years that has been abused. But it's so thin and light weight in comparison to this one. I love that the Dahle is double sided and an AMAZING value. Sure you can use a coupon for one at any of the craft store Trifectas... but the quality and value of the Dahle mat is unmatched.

I've seen several YouTube videos that said you could use a self healing mat in place of a clear acrylic plate in die cut machines. The acrylic warps over time but the self healing mat lasts much, much longer. I have tested the clear self healing mat and I'm 1000% in LOVE with them! I use this in my original Gemini electric die cutting machine and it works great! The best part is that it has barely made any dents in my cutting mat. I also use it with my Xacto knife for other craft projects so it has multiple functions. The mat is not 100% clear, a bit on the "cloudy" side - so semi-clear but you can still see through it. Do not be fooled by cheaper self healing mats being sold on Amazon. I purchased some and the quality does not come close to the Vantage self healing mats! The other mats I bought were so thin that 2 of them was equivalent to one Vantage mat! Be forewarned though - with enough pressure you *CAN* warp this self healing mat. I couldn't get an embossing folder to work properly and added way too many shims. It was too thick and when running it through the Gemini, I heard the most awful noise (more than "normal") and permanently warped my self healing mat! After wrecking 2 self healing mats, I am very careful with the amount of shims I use with my Gemini machine.

Me gusto ya que es grande y muy practica para cortar con cúter rotatorio o normal, el único detalle es que como es color transparente si se mancha se notan mucho las manchas. Excelente producto creo que también comprare la tabla color negro.

We have an ikea table we just purchased recently for our crafting area and this mat is the perfect size and thickness to preserve the table top. The clear colour is great, it doesnt stand out too much and its very thick and durable, so i could see this lasting for a long time.

J’utilise ce tapis pour tailler les tissus, les patrons . Avec le couteau rotatif, aucune marque de coupure sur le tapis, il reste intact. Les tissus ne glissent pas, car il y a un peu de statique. J’adore ce tapis, il me fait sauver beaucoup de temps . J’aurais bien aimé pouvoir acheter plus grand, 100cmx200cm, aurait été encore plus pratique....mais rien m’empêche d’en acheter un 2 ieme pour obtenir 91x 240 cm. De plus je l’ai reçu à la date exacte, donnée par le vendeur, merci beaucoup pour ce magnifique produit.
