Space Case (Reading Rainbow)

Best Book Ever
This book is the best. But just so everyone knows, James and Edward Marshall are the same guy. James just used his name when he worked as an illustrator and “Edward” when he was also the writer. There is no “the Marshalls”-it’s just one super amazing guy.

A Remembered Childhood Halloween
I read this story to my 3 younger brothers every night for weeks when we were little. I remember one night in particular when I just didn't want to read it again and it was hours of them begging and keeping me awake that finally changed my mind. But I decided to just read the first page, "It came from outer space..." and then the last page, "And in a flash, it was gone." We couldn't stop laughing. Years later, I thought about this book and couldn't remember it's title or author except for those lines. One quick search on Google led me to "Space Case" and the rest is history. My siblings and I are all adults now and still love this classic Halloween story from our childhood. I'm so happy I was able to purchase it through Amazon.

The best read aloud in my 1000 plus collection.
I have a read aloud collection of over a thousand books and this is my favorite. The George and Martha series by the same author is my favorite picture book series. I also like butter pecan ice cream but that has nothing to do with it.

Great book I use to own back in the early 80's and bought again for my 3yr old daughter. She loved it. A good one to get the Trick or Treating and Halloween excitement going.

My uncle was the model for the father in this book. He knew the author/illustrator. So I'm probably a little partial. The Marshalls picture books have a lot of humor.

The Marshals do it again
"Space Case" is a wonderful book for kids and adults alike. It is just as good at Easter as Halloween. Our older kids were huge fans and now our grand children love it too. I love the dad's response when he lets the trick or treaters in the house. Any book by the Marshals or Harry Allard is a delight. I wish they were all in print.

A space alien's perspective on Halloween
This book is charming for primary level students. It's a fun and good example of different perspectives. For the human children Halloween is just fun. But it makes the visiting alien feel at home and want to stay until he finds out Halloween is just once a year.

From the '80's
We got this after searching for Reading Rainbow episodes and watching an oldie but goodie on space. The book is cute, and fun, following a space robot as it encounters children on Halloween, *but* it does depict cultural appropriation (child dressed as a Native American for Halloween). You may want to skip this one or be prepared to address why a child might *not* want to dress that way now. Times change!
