A collection of films starring four of the sexiest European bombshells of the 1960s and '70s. French sex kitten Brigitte Bardot vamps it up as a film star who falls in love with a Prohibition-era bootlegger in RUM RUNNERS (1971). Italian screen siren Sophia Loren won a Best Actress Oscar for her starring turn in Vittorio De Sica's TWO WOMEN (1962) as a Roman mother caught up in the horrors of World War II. Fellow countrywoman Gina Lollobrigida lit up the screen in IMPERIAL VENUS (1963) as Paolina Bonaparte, Napoleon's beloved sister who thirsted for power of her own but could only obtain it through affairs with men. And Italian beauty Virna Lisi stars as an attention-starved woman who feigns a mugging in the streets of Milan and becomes a celebrity with unforeseen consequences in the fable of conscience THE DOLL THAT TOOK THE TOWN (1965).

"Bombshells" is a Bomb, unfortunately...
Reading the details of this release and you`re immediately sucked in to the promise/satisfaction of seeing 5 of Europe`s most alluring leading ladies - Sophia Loren, Gina Lollabrigida, Elke Sommer, Virna Lisi and Brigitte Bardot - so it`s a done deal, and in your mailbox shortly thereafter. The harsh reality unveils itself as soon as you pop it in the dvd player - the prints are washed-out, some edited poorly w/ jumpy picture stabilization, almost all in B+W, almost all in pan and scan. Bummer of the highest order, and the movies aren`t great either, except for 'Two Women', and I`ve purchased 3 different copies of this film, and ALL of the print sources were abyssmal, so I don`t think a solid source worth keeping even exists (same w/ 'Yesterday, Today And Tomorrow', another great film w/ nothing but lousy copies floating about). I got mine incredibly cheap so I didn`t feel too victimized by the purchase, but traded it in as soon as I sat bored throughout the viewings, still hopeful for something worthwhile to convince me to keep it in my vast collection. That didn`t happen, so pass on this one and seek something else out for your enjoyment and collection.

rum runners movie is incomplete.
the rum runners movie is very badly cut. the box the dvd came in listed the run time as 125 min.. the original movie was 145 min.. the movie on this dvd is only 80 min.. big ripoff

A disappointment
I bought this collection for only one reason, TWO WOMEN (haven't even bothered to view the other films). The TWO WOMEN entry was very disappointing. Looks like a copy of a VHS tape (my videotape of a TV broadcast was superior). Better DVDs of this Oscar-winning film can be found on the internet.
