The KRUPS toaster is well made and does a great job of toasting bagels.
This toaster replaced an old T-Fal toaster that still works, but was showing small signs of possibly needing replacement. I liked the T-Fal, but as you can tell from the picture it was showing signs of age. One thing I did not like about the T-Fal was that the words indicating what each button did wiped right off very easily with a swipe of a dish rag. So this time I thought I would try another brand. I researched at all the web sites selling toasters and I found that there were no perfect toasters to be had (at least according to the opinions I read). It didn't seem to matter how much you spent. Since I really didn't want to spend $400 for a toaster, I settled on this KRUPS model. For $68.46 I have an attractive looking toaster that does the job nicely. I love bagels and I would have to give a higher mark to KRUPS for bagel toasting versus my old toaster. Does it take longer to toast than my old T-Fal? Perhaps it does, but so what. I am not sure why that is an issue with a lot of the comments I have read. When I want toast, I put the bread or bagel in and than go set the table, pull out whatever I want to put on the bagel, etc. I am not standing there watching the toaster with bated breath. This toaster is very easy to keep shiny and I love that the crumb trays are in front (my old toaster had them in the back). I have had this toaster for a little over a week. Will it last the seven plus years my old toaster did? Time will tell, but for now I am happy with my purchase and I believe you will be pleased with this mid price range toaster.

Terrific Toaster
I read a lot of reviews and did a lot of research before buying this toaster. I love it. The toaster itself is very attractive and modern looking. It works like a charm. I read reviews that complained about the length of time it took to toast. I learned many years ago that low quality toasters usually toasted very fast, browning the outside, but not warming the bread product itself through and through. When I started to purchase better quality toasters I learned that they did indeed take a bit longer to toast. The reason being is that they toasted more slowly and at a lower temperature which allowed the bread to be thoroughly heated through, not just browned on the outside. This toaster takes as long as the one it replaced as it too was a high quality toaster. It toasts perfectly evenly on bread, bagels, waffles, etc. I appreciate the reheat feature which allows the bread product to be heated again without getting more toasted. The defrost setting works just as it should and is really very fast. I appreciate the crumb trays which are located in the front at the bottom. They're very easy to keep clean. Also, if you have something that is sitting low in the toaster, simply push up on the lever and your item will be raised enough so you won't have the need to go fishing for it with a knife or fork. This toaster also has a 2 year warranty which is a nice change from the standard one year offered on most products. I would recommend this toaster to anyone. There's not one thing that I would change about it or that I'm not pleased with. Don't forget to do as the manufacturer instructs and run on the highest setting with nothing in the toaster for 2 or 3 times before actually toasting in it.

I'm hoping this gets better with age
Replacing my 18 yr old Krups 4 slice toaster w this one. In comparison, it feel lighter. Cons: It toasts slower. I've had to move the time setting to 4 to get noticibly toasted bread. Up from 3 on the last Krups toaster. So it takes about an extra minute. I'm hoping this gets better with age. There was a chemical smell the first few times we used it and the first two toast batches actually tasted a bit chemically. I ran the toaster on the highest setting (6mins) empty on both sides to sort of burn out the 'new' smell. It seems to be gone now. At that setting the sides of the toaster got quite warm. If yours will see a lot of use at higher settings be sure to keep the area around it clear. The levers probably should have been the brushed metal finish, if fingerprints bother you, this probably isn't the toaster for you. Pros: Toasts evenly, all settings function well. Warming function is great when you couldn't get to your toast straight away Defrost! I didn't have this before and I doubt I'd ever buy another toaster w/o it. If you freeze your bread you can take it straight from the freezer. Pretty to look at. Wipes up easily Last one went 18 yrs so I won't complain if this one does the same. Update: @ 6 mos the toaster is a little faster to toast. Still an even toast, no problems. :)

Excellent product!
I bought this toaster 10 years ago and it's still working fine. I'm replacing it due to plug getting warm when in use. I really would like to buy this toaster again but spending $159 for a toaster is crazy.

Absolutely the Best Toast Ever.
I am like Mitch Hedberg, I don't want anything standing between me and my toast. This toaster nails it. Perfect toast every time. All shades of doneness with a tweek of the knob; which by the way have slight clicks that keep it put. . My wife prefers her toast lightly toasted and I prefer medium. No problem just place in the appropriate side. I keep one set for her and one set for me. We are both happy, happy, happy. When preparing toast for a sandwich, such as a BLT or a tuna sandwich I use the Bagel setting. It toast one side only but slightly heats the other side which in my opinion makes for a perfect sandwich. It is so accurate you can set the knobs the same, put in 4 slices and they will both pop up almost simultaneously. In regard to evenness, it toasts the bread almost perfectly uniform front and back. No missed spots and a delicate crispness unlike any toast I have had beforel. You have likely never seen such beautiful toast.......now for some really good butter and Mayhaw Jelly.

Solid toaster if you want a dehydrator
-----UPDATED REVIEW------------- I am changing my original review to lower it to 1 star. After about 6 months, this toaster is barely toasting at all. I have the dials set to maximum and the toast comes out warm and dry but not exactly toasted. There is only a hint of golden color. I have to push the bread down again to have it toasted and then it comes out unevenly browned. Mostly, it just turns the bread into a dried out, hard slab. So if you need bread crumbs, it works great. If you want actual toasted bread, it doesn't work at all. And it takes absolutely forever to run through a cycle--I won't use the word "toast" since it no longer does that. It's a bread dehydrator, not a toaster. Yes, you can see from my original review that it initially worked. But less than a month after I wrote that, we started having to turn up the dials to max and getting that traditional yummy toast that is browned on the outside while warm and still tender on the inside was impossible. This was an outrageously expensive toaster to stop working properly so quickly. I don't know why a good toaster is so difficult to find now, but it is. I certainly can't recommend this one. And I can't understand how so many others gave it good reviews unless they did so during the first week after purchase. Thar is why I initially thought it was a good toaster. I was wrong. -----ORIGINAL REVIEW------- I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. When we first got the toaster, it worked fine, although I had to dial it almost to max to get really brown toast. I love the fact that the slots are wide and you can lift the lever to make your toast stick up to take it out. However, now that we've had it for several months, I have noticed that the top portion of the toast browns while the bottom does not. It may just be our toaster or a problem with the homemade bread, but it is not toasting evenly. It is also on the slow side for making toast, although definitely faster than our toaster oven. Overall, the toaster seems well built with nice features, but we are finding it a little uneven in toasting.

Sleek, Matching, and Built to Perform!
I love this KRUPS Breakfast Set! The stainless steel finish gives my kitchen a modern, coordinated look, and each appliance works exactly as you’d hope. The coffee maker brews hot and fast, the toaster delivers even browning, and the kettle heats water in no time. Easy to clean and solidly built—KRUPS really nailed both style and function with this set. Highly recommend if you’re looking to upgrade your morning routine in one go!

good, not great.
So I have had a piece of garbage toastmaster for the past 12 years. Just never got around to replacing it. (The control knobs broke and popped off within the first couple of weeks. Burned toast, had to hover over it to not set off the fire alarm, etc.) So about a month ago I started researching which toaster to buy. I didn't want to spend a huge amount for a toaster that might be better than a 50-70 dollar one. So I decided on either this one or the T-fall four slice with the long slots. Finally I read one review where the guy said "hey, your not buying a car, its a toaster, pick one and be happy." Or something like that. Anyway, I decided on this one over the t-fall based on good reviews and I liked how it looked. Positives: toasts evenly, most of the time. Like the bagel setting, although it only lightly toasts the top of the bagel on that setting no matter how high you turn it up. I usually toast it twice or just toast it on a normal setting. So I should say I like the idea of a bagel setting. It defrosts well and looks sleek on the counter. It is easy to clean with the crumb trays pulling straight out. Negatives: the top of it gets hot, extremely so. My 6 year old burned his finger quite badly on the top metal edge trying to grab a piece of toast. (It blistered from the heat and the skin was slightly melted, so its not an 'oh he burned himself with a boo-boo on the hot toast' no he got an actual burn) New house rule, only mom or dad can get the toast. I heard this is an issue with the T-fall as well so I guess either way I would have had a problem. The wattage on this one is lower than the a T-fall. A fact I didn't know about until I had already ordered this one. Result: its slow. It takes a good five minutes or so to get your toast back. I haven't timed it, but it feels a little slower than the garbage that was toastmaster. While making breakfast for myself I hardly notice it. However when trying to toast enough for five kids it can get a bit tedious. I might buy the T-fall as well and that way I can double my output and compare them both side by side, but then again I would have spent all the money I was trying to avoid spending in the first place. Maybe I will just suffer, who knows. I would recommend the unit, for a small family or a single person. It does OK for my needs, not great. This is not a silver bullet. From what I have read you should really prepare to spend double or even triple if you want a perfect toaster. So there it is.

Browns Sliced Bread Evenly, both sides
My expectations are that a toaster be able to brown, Bread, English Muffins, and Frozen Waffles to a satisfactory level with one press. The Krups toaster succeeds brilliantly at one out of three with one press. The toaster is nothing short of fabulous with grocery store baked sliced bread. It toasts bread evenly (both sides) at a setting of 5 or 6. Per the photos the bread is evenly toasted on both sides. This alone earns the toaster four stars. No other toaster I have ever had can do this as consistently as the Krups. The toaster however requires that Frozen Waffles and English Muffins be popped down at least twice to reach the level of browning that I require. The defrosting feature, in combination with the maximum setting, still did not brown Frozen Waffles to the same standard as the bread; nor did simply putting the Waffles in at the maximum setting. English Muffins on the maximum setting were warmed but not sufficiently browned. I did not have bagels to toast but I did try English Muffins on the bagel setting and found they did not brown sufficiently on the inside. My approach is to toast Waffles and English Muffins on the maximum setting, then turn the toaster down to 3 or 4 and re-toast to sufficiently and consistently brown them the way I like. The toaster's cord comes out of the side and is longer than others with plenty of reach to access electrical plugs. I give the Krups four stars due to its superb bread toasting ability and design. I deducted one star for making me re-toast English Muffins and Waffles. Note that other toasters I have owned were not even close in terms of the Krups performance.
