Floating Away: A Book to Help Children Understand Addiction

A great read! Very helpful!
What a powerful book! It is so very hard teaching my 7 year old about drugs and so hard making her truly believe that nothing is her fault and that she is loved by her addict father. This book helps! There is a letter at the end that says they are loved, nothing is in their control, that their only job is to be a kid, etc. and reading it shows that they're not alone in this. Reading/ hearing it from a total stranger sometimes helps more than hearing it from someone you love. I love the questions and that they get to draw their feelings at the end. It was truly a great read and wish there was more like this from this author.

Good book describing addiction
This is a great book for kids describing how addition affects people and why they sometimes act as selfishly as they do.The only thing that bothers me is the implication that it is ONLY drugs and alcohol and that it is primarily the parents that children have to worry about.

Such a great resource
This is a great book to help your littles understand addiction. The story is so sweet and a beautiful metaphor for what happens when we are addicted to substances that take us away!

Personally, friends, or family- there isn’t one of us who hasn’t been touched by addiction.
Just this week our friend, and mama of a preteen, called and said “he’s gone missing again”. 1 year since rehab, and her husband still struggles with sobreity. This will be in their hands as soon as I’m done reading it. Because once again, Andrew is filling a gap that is needed with his words. Praying this book brings healing to so many.

Helpful
This was a very helpful book. My nine-year-old deals with alcoholism in her family and with her own anxiety issues. This book is helping her develop skills she can use to understand and to thrive.

Life changing book
It is beautifully written; simplistic enough for a child to understand and relate to, and yet doesn't minimize the complexity that is addiction.

A great resource
Love love love this book.As someone who was touched by my dad’s addiction to different things, I so appreciated this. It’s been said that we are all addicted to something, and I really think that’s the truth. This is a sweet story for your littles to help them understand addiction through a beautiful metaphor.I’ve bought a copy for myself and for some dear friends who lost someone to addiction. This is such a great resource to have on hand.

Incredible Tool
This book creates a beautiful narrative for families to talk openly about addiction. As a foster parent, it is so important for us to have age appropriate tools to help our children talk about their own traumas. Thank you for this.
