When you phone battery is dead - I'll still be talking.
This phone does exactly what I bought it for, hangs on the wall out of the way until I need it. It's a rugged phone with no frills. It has a good loud bell and 12 buttons to call out, including STAR and POUND key (it's not a "hash tag" its the POUND KEY!).It will work during a power outage, unlike our mobile handsets, and I don't have to learn how to program it, or how to recall the last 10 callers or add my most popular numbers to the directory. ITS A BASIC PHONE! If you can count from zero to nine you are fully qualified to use this phone. When the Zombie apocalypse comes and the undead destroy all the cell phone towers - I will still be able to call Dominoes to get a pizza.

Got tired of replacing the other brand...
After having gone through three Cortelco phones that died, I decided to find an alternate manufacturer. This phone DOES have two things about it that you NEED to be aware of. First, it ONLY works with a wall plate (the one with the two mounting studs and the jack). There is NO CORD, the connector is built into the back and protrudes just enough to enter the wall plate receptacle. It slides up and down, so you can affix the phone to the mounting studs. Second, it makes a "click" in the earpiece, you do NOT hear the DTMF "Tones".Overall, I am happy with this purchase, if it lasts more than 6 months, it will outlive the Cortelco's that preceded it.

Decent "classic" style wall phone, with two disappointments
I bought one of these "Single Line Classic 2554 Wall Phone" products to replace an older phone of the same basic style. It seems to be of decent quality, although it does not have the heft of the older phones. Some of this is because, instead of being full of traditional components, it has only the small ringer bell and a small printed circuit board inside. The Amazon listing said that it had "volume control", although as with so many phone product listings, they don't say whether that means control of ringer volume, or of audio volume, or of both. The old phone did not have audio volume control, while it did have a small lever on the base which adjusted the ringer volume. Conversely, THIS phone has no ringer volume control, but it does have a small three-position audio volume switch on the middle of the handset; this appears to affect only the earpiece (listening volume), NOT the microphone volume. The ringer really is an actual bell with an electromagnetic striker, and it makes a "classic" phone ringer sound. Many modern phones just use a small speaker to play a recording of a classic phone ringer, but this one uses the real thing. We have an elderly member of the household who is partially deaf, and with the handset volume at the highest of its three settings, she can hear well enough to have easy conversations using this phone.Tests have shown this phone to have good audio quality on both sides of the conversation.Note that this phone MUST be used with a wall plate designed for connecting and holding wall phones only. It does not have (as some similar looking phones DO have) a recessed short phone cable that can be unfurled and plugged into a normal phone jack. The wall plate must also have the two metal "mushroom" shape studs to dock with the slots on the metal back plate of this phone. The Amazon listing suggests a suitable wall plate as an option. In the title of this review, I noted two disappointments with this phone:- Lack of a ringer volume control.....in the past, many such phones had a small lever that either adjusted the the striker-to-bell distance, or somehow adjusted a muting device to dampen the ringer volume.....I wish this phone had that, but at least in our household, the need for the ringer to be heard by our hard-of-hearing family member makes this a moot point.- The design of the 'hanger' into which the handset is hung when not in use, and into which the top of the handset is supposed to press down on the 'hook' to disconnect the call, is flawed. When placing the handset into this hanger, about half the time the handset hangs up slightly too high, and the hook is not depressed, so the phone system still thinks the phone is off the hook and this prevents new calls from being made on other extensions in the house, and also prevents new incoming calls from coming through. If the person using the phone pulls down slightly on the handset when hanging up the phone, all is well. This problem is apparently due to subtle issues with the shape of the top of the handset and the shape of the hanger, and is not easily remedied.

Poor Quality, Does Not Work.
While unit appears undamaged, package was in poor condition.Plugged the phone in and all I got was crackling. Attach any other phone to my line and they work.I did manage to dial out one time, but was unable to hang up without disconnecting. Not sure if I can return this, as I changed the plug in an attempt to get it functioning.Thirty six bucks (plus shipping) down the drain. I gave it one star for looking like a telephone.

Phone connector not ridged plastic had to modify the product to work.
The phone works great after I modified the product. The phone comes with a male wall connector. The plastic male connector was not ridged enough to make the connection to the standard female wall connection. I even purchased a second female wall connection...no luck. I had to remove the male wall connection and manually added a traditional phone plug, etc...basic red to red, green to green connection. Why didn't I just return the product.1. Family member with memory issues kept forgetting to turn off the current wireless phone at the end of a call. We needed a wall phone that:a. The handset was the old style corded to the phone base.b. Would terminate the call when the handset was hung up.2. The phone works great once the connection issue was resolved . The family members love the new phone (i.e. the reason I gave the review 3 stars instead of 1).

Good Value.
Am a former Bell System, AT&T Installer. This product is very close to the original 2554 Analog wall phone, manufactured by Western Electric. While It has no ringer volume control, it does have a true "bell ringer" and is loud enough for a the average room, or non-noisy workshop environment. It has a 3 position hearing volume control in the handle, and requires a standard WALLPHONE mounting jack/plate, as pictured. It is well packaged and works as described right out of the box. This is an absolutely no-frills, touch tone wall phone, but good overall value.I have installed several of these models in commercial environments, and will continue ordering/using.

When mounted to wall receiver would fall off
This poorly designed phone had a not-so-loud ring and the receiver would not hang up and would easily fall off. It was returned immediately.
