This quite ample and nicely illustrated booklet is the perfect look at the extensive ancient history and history of archaeological inquiry at Knidos, long-abandoned port city on the southwest Aegean coast of Anatolia. Perfect balance of information in abundance made delectable by anecdotes and pertinent pictures. How nice to be able to "zoom in" on history from time to time, from the generalized and dry "big picture" to a colorful and detailed vignette like this one.

Interesting account, to the point yet with all detail necessary for an understanding of what the lion stood for, how it was found, how it came to Britain and what its significance is today.

Que le titre ne fasse pas penser qu'il s’agit uniquement d'une monographie sur une sculpture qui ornait jadis un tombeau, maintenant conservée au British Museum. C'est un véritable guide historique de la ville de Cnide, avec un excellent plan archéologique qui permet de parfaitement se repérer sur place. A emporter absolument si vous devez visiter ce site qui en vaut la peine.
